Job Description

Infrastructure Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Infrastructure Engineer based in the United States.

This is a fully remote infrastructure role supporting business-critical Oracle Utilities environments for clients across North America.
You will design, deploy, maintain, and troubleshoot resilient infrastructure across servers, networks, databases, and application environments.
The role combines hands-on Linux administration, networking, scripting, middleware, SQL, and infrastructure optimization.
You will act as a trusted technical partner, translating complex infrastructure issues into clear solutions for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
The position offers meaningful ownership across client environments, internal infrastructure, process improvement, and critical incident response.
You will work independently in a fast-paced environment where reliability, problem-solving, and responsiveness directly influence client outcomes.
Occasional travel and flexible on-call support are required to support go-lives, critical incidents, and infrastructure activities.

Accountabilities
  • Infrastructure Design & Operations: Design, deploy, maintain, and optimize infrastructure supporting resilient application environments, including server, hardware, software, and network configurations.
  • Linux & Systems Administration: Configure and maintain lightweight Linux server environments through the command line, including custom kernels, startup automation, system recovery, middleware, and performance tuning.
  • Network & Connectivity Management: Troubleshoot network and connectivity issues, maintain firewalls and VPNs, manage Wi-Fi and network switches, and ensure reliable voice and data flow across environments.
  • Incident & Root Cause Management: Investigate system performance, security, connectivity, and application issues, identify root causes, and implement durable solutions for time-sensitive problems.
  • Client Technical Support: Provide infrastructure installation, support, and guidance to client IT teams while clearly communicating technical plans, risks, dependencies, and recommended solutions.
  • Planning & Delivery: Develop detailed implementation plans for server hardware and software deliverables and communicate them effectively to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Monitoring & Process Improvement: Define meaningful operational metrics, identify opportunities for cost savings and infrastructure optimization, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Operational Support: Provide on-call assistance during critical incidents and flexible support windows, while maintaining reliable communication and service continuity.
  • Internal Technical Support: Assist with internal infrastructure, network, VPN connectivity, hardware, and software needs as required.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with consultants and internal teams to anticipate infrastructure changes, resolve complex issues, document procedures, and maintain consistent technical standards.
Requirements
  • Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Network Systems Administration, Information Systems Technology, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent professional experience, with 5+ years of relevant infrastructure experience.
  • Linux Expertise: At least 5 years of experience configuring and administering lightweight Linux servers through the command line, including custom kernel configuration, startup automation, and system recovery.
  • Scripting & Data Technologies: Strong experience with shell scripting, middleware, and SQL, with the ability to automate operational tasks and support application environments.
  • Networking: Hands-on experience with firewalls and VPNs, including SonicWall, Wi-Fi management, VLANs, trunking, managed switches, and multi-switch network topologies.
  • Infrastructure Troubleshooting: Demonstrated ability to diagnose system, application, connectivity, performance, and security issues and drive problems through to root-cause resolution.
  • Client Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts, implementation plans, risks, and issues to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Reliability & Ownership: Strong self-direction, accountability, composure under pressure, and the ability to prioritize business-critical issues without close supervision.
  • Remote Work: Ability to maintain a dependable home office with high-speed internet and work effectively with distributed teams across client time zones.
  • Availability: Willingness to participate in on-call rotations and occasional evening or weekend support when required.
  • Travel: Ability to travel approximately 10–25% within the United States for go-lives, critical incidents, data center activities, or on-site infrastructure work.
  • Preferred Technical Skills: Experience with WebLogic administration, clustered environments, scripted application deployment, performance monitoring, and tuning.
  • Virtualization & Backup: Familiarity with VMware vCenter, ESXi, Workstation, Player, Oracle VM/OVM Manager, and Veeam Backup and Restore.
  • Additional Technologies: Experience with Oracle Database Administration, DNS, Active Directory and PowerShell, Microsoft Office applications, and enterprise infrastructure support is advantageous.
  • Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with Oracle Utilities products and the energy or utilities industry is preferred.
Benefits
  • Remote-first work: Fully remote position within the United States.
  • Client impact: Work directly on business-critical infrastructure supporting Oracle Utilities environments across North America.
  • Technical variety: Gain exposure to Linux, networking, databases, middleware, virtualization, security, automation, and enterprise applications.
  • Professional growth: Opportunity to expand infrastructure, architecture, troubleshooting, and client-facing consulting expertise.
  • Travel opportunities: Approximately 10–25% travel for select go-lives, critical incidents, data center activities, and client infrastructure projects.
  • Flexibility: Flexible working arrangements to support on-call rotations and time-sensitive business requirements.
  • Ownership: Significant autonomy and responsibility across infrastructure delivery, optimization, incident response, and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborative environment: Work closely with consultants, client IT teams, and distributed technical stakeholders.
  • Inclusive workplace: Commitment to equal employment opportunity and reasonable accommodations throughout employment and the hiring process.
