Job purpose

Responsibilities include activities ranging from; measurement of product against design specifications based on a combination of inspection plans and print data using sophisticated measurement devices, verifying received components meet requirements prior to use, supporting the calibration process, helping Quality Engineering to establish inspection plans, generation and storage computer based quality records, basic maintenance of inspection equipment, assisting with the non-conforming material process, supporting manufacturing personnel understanding of measurement techniques, and other items as required.

Duties and responsibilities

• A skilled position, the Quality Technician is expected to understand the following. Specific knowledge will be trained;
• Perform Quality Technician related tasks in support of meeting the company quality objectives and Manufacturing Operations delivery commitments in a machining and assembly environment.
• Inspect incoming materials, manufactured components, and finished goods for conformance to internal and/or Customer requirements following 100% or AQL inspection, and utilizing SPC tools. Generation of Discrepant Material Reports when necessary.
• Interface with Purchasing, Engineering and Suppliers in support of discrepant material resolution.
• Responsible for generation and storage of other computer based quality related records including the maintaining of component and material certifications, certificates of conformance, and First Article Inspection Reports.
• Assist with the preparation and completion of First Article Inspection Reports per AS9102. Understand or learn understanding of the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) or similar.
• Provide shop floor support to resolve daily quality related product and process issues. Mentor and train manufacturing personnel in proper measurement techniques.
• Review quality documentation to ensure conformance. Recommend improvement / correction revisions to Inspection Plans for both supplied and manufactured materials ensuring compliance to Customer drawing and PO requirements.
• Receive and control limited life materials such as epoxy to ensure compliance with specified expiration dates.
• Operation of the CMM / SmartScope systems as required, training other QA inspectors and technicians in their operation, progressing to training of programming / programming skills with the later expectation of programming ability.
• Maintain MSDS database and properly identify safety characteristics of incoming materials and chemicals.
• Support conformance to the Quality Management System throughout the organization.
• Support Manufacturing Operations delivery commitment in understanding production timing and sequencing prioritization and striving to support Operations while assuring conformity to product requirements.
• Maintain inspection equipment and tool calibrations and the calibration log, and schedule outside services calibration for items not calibrated in house, all to ensure verification equipment is working properly and within calibration.
• Ability to obtain Designated Quality Representative Certification, acting on behalf of the certifying Customer as their agent when certifying their product.
• Ensure flow-down requirements are being satisfied by suppliers during incoming inspection
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in technical field or equivalent technical work experience in a manufacturing environment.

• 2-5 years of experience in design or manufacturing environment that includes machining and assembly.
• Knowledge of computer software programs including Microsoft Office (Word/ Excel / PowerPoint)
• Ability to read and understand product drawings that include GD&T requirements.
• Experience with layout / surface plate inspection techniques and knowledge of statistical sampling plans.
• Experience with sophisticated quality inspection equipment such as Coordinate Measurement Machines and SmartScopes, as well as pin gauges, micrometers, calipers, etc. Training provided.
• Ability to learn programming of Coordinate Measurement Machines and SmartScopes.

• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, and interact well with all levels of personnel including suppliers and customers.
• Experience working in a regulated industry with registration as ISO9000 or AS9100 Certified, with a controlled Quality Management System.
• Have excellent decision-making, communication and organizational skills
• Be able to manage multiple tasks and meet multiple deadlines simultaneously and have a strong sense of urgency.
• Be self-motivated, focused, and detail oriented with a positive attitude.

Working conditions

• May be exposed to industrial oils, toner, coolants, solvents, lubricants, adhesive and other chemicals. NOTE: All safety precautions will be used.
• Plant wide climate control and air conditioning.
• Could work in areas with excessive noise. NOTE: Ear protection available.

Physical requirements

• Could require intermittent and long periods of sitting and/or standing.
• Required to do repetitive work.
• Periodic lifting of materials not to exceed 50 pounds.
