Job Description
Job Summary: The Medical Assistant provides clinical and administrative support to physicians and other healthcare providers in an outpatient clinic setting. The Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting with patient flow, preparing patients for examinations, documenting pertinent health information, performing routine clinical tasks within their scope of practice, assisting with minor office procedures, coordinating diagnostic testing and referrals, and providing professional and compassionate patient service. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, confidentiality, effective communication, and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced clinical environment. The Medical Assistant works closely with providers, nursing staff, front-office personnel, and other members of the healthcare team to ensure patients receive safe, efficient, and respectful care.
Job Qualifications:
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic knowledge of medical terminology and routine clinical procedures.
- Ability to accurately obtain and document patient vital signs.
- Basic computer and electronic medical record skills.
- Ability to perform basic clerical duties, including filing, typing, scanning, data entry, and record maintenance.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and follow HIPAA requirements.
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and complete multiple tasks efficiently.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
- Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a healthcare team.
- Professional, dependable, courteous, and compassionate manner when interacting with patients and coworkers.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) preferred.
- Previous experience working in a physician office, outpatient clinic, hospital, or other healthcare setting preferred.
- Experience with electronic medical records and electronic scheduling systems preferred.
- Knowledge of insurance authorization, precertification, referrals, and diagnostic scheduling is beneficial.
- Current CPR/BLS certification preferred or required according to clinic policy.
