Job Description

Senior Accountant

FLSA Status: Exempt

Reports to: Chief Finance Officer

The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing the day-to-day finance and accounting operations, including entering journals, using financial technology systems, and other select finance-related administration. Responsibilities include overseeing payroll accounting reporting to ensure accuracy and prevent collusion and overseeing the family trust.

Essential Functions:

  • Financial Reporting & Analysis: Prepare routine financial statements while conducting payroll reviews and analyzing budget variances and financial trends.
  • General Ledger & Reconciliation: Manage all general ledger activities and resolve complex account discrepancies to ensure standard ledger integrity.
  • Trust & Estate Accounting: Manage intermediate and final accountings for active trusts, ensuring precise income/principal allocations, calculating trustee commissions, and partnering with external entities for compliance.
  • Compliance & Auditing: Guarantee all transactions adhere to GAAP and internal policies while coordinating documentation for internal and external auditors.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required, degree in finance, accounting, or relevant field a plus.
  • 5 years in financial management and accounting; preferably working with a trust or foundation.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.) with expertise in Excel required.
  • Proficiency and hands-on experience with financial management software required.
  • Sound knowledge of accounting principles, standards, and regulations.
  • Experience overseeing the annual audit.
  • Superior data management and data analysis skills.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a passion for accuracy.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with experience collaborating in a multidisciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team, particularly possessing excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to explain financial terms in simple language.
