This role offers the opportunity to design and deliver scalable backend software within a complex, distributed technology environment.

You will work closely with Product, Design, Operations, Data Science, Business Analysts, and Technical Support to deliver robust solutions.
A strong focus on testing, observability, safe coding practices, and production support will help ensure high-quality software throughout its lifecycle.
You will also contribute to architecture decisions, mentor junior engineers, and help guide delivery across ambiguous and technically demanding workstreams.
This is an opportunity for an experienced backend engineer to take significant ownership while working with a modern technology stack centered around Go and distributed systems.

Accountabilities:

  • Provide implementation and production support to Business Analysts and Technical Support teams, contributing to the diagnosis and resolution of complex issues.
  • Act as a technical specialist when complex matters require detailed evaluation and analysis of multiple variables.
  • Support project leadership with work estimates, staffing requirements, interviews, and software development schedules.
  • Mentor junior software engineers and contribute to the development of engineering best practices.
  • Work independently to deliver increasingly complex projects in environments with ambiguity and evolving requirements.

Requirements:

  • Master of Science degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a directly related field.
  • 3+ years of experience with Golang.

  • 2+ years of experience working in a transportation or logistics environment.
  • 2+ years of experience with React or AngularJS web development frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of software architecture, distributed systems, testing, and scalable application development.
  • Experience working with secure coding practices, dependency management, risk mitigation, and production software quality.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to evaluate complex technical issues and identify effective solutions.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with experience working across engineering and cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to lead complex projects, make architecture decisions, and independently manage work with increasing levels of ambiguity.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers and contributing to technical direction.
  • Experience with project estimation, task planning, delivery coordination, and resource planning is valuable.
  • Experience may be gained concurrently.
  • Must be able to work in a hybrid environment, with three days per week in the Chicago, Illinois office and up to two days working from home.
