About the Opportunity:

The Election Official under the guidance of the Alternate Presiding Election Official (APEO), the Deputy Chief Election Officer and the Chief Election Officer, will greet voters, process registration, update voter information, issue ballots to eligible voters, provide information and assistance, and ensure voters are able to cast their ballots efficiently. Election Officials must attend one training session on the following dates:

  • Wednesday, September 16, 2026, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
  • Saturday, September 26, 2026, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
  • Monday, September 28, 2026, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

What you will be doing

Main Responsibilities of the role include:

  • Assist in the setup or closing procedures of the voting place
  • Greeting voters as they enter the voting place and direct them to the registration table
  • Manage lineup of voters inside and outside the voting place
  • Provide voters with information about voting process and identification requirements
  • Update voters’ existing information
  • Check identification and registration forms for new eligible voters
  • Register new eligible voters
  • Read the voter declaration to each voter and ensure they sign the voter book
  • Issue ballot and provide clear instructions on how to mark them
  • Assist voters to insert their ballot into the tabulator while maintaining ballot secrecy

What you will bring to our team

Minimum eligibility:

  • Eligible to work in Canada
  • Provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check
  • Minimum age of 16 years old
  • Must be available for the entire shift
  • Must attend one training session
  • Not affiliated with any person running for an elected position in the election

  • Professional, approachable, and helpful demeanor
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills when working with a diverse range of people throughout a long workday
  • Good organizational skills with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to follow directions
  • Knowledge of or interest in the election process
  • Previous experience as an election official in a municipal, provincial or federal election is considered an asset

Working Conditions

  • Two 30-minute meal breaks will be provided. Meals will be provided. Election Officials must remain on site.
  • Shifts are up to 12 hours in length, so must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time
