Job Description

Senior Grid Interconnection Consultant

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Senior Grid Interconnection Consultant in Canada.

This role is a senior-level consulting position focused on advancing transmission planning and grid interconnection studies for complex power systems across North America.
The Senior Grid Interconnection Consultant will support utilities, ISOs/RTOs, and energy developers in evaluating system performance, interconnection feasibility, and transmission constraints.
The position involves deep technical analysis of load flow, stability, short circuit, and electromagnetic transient conditions to support reliable grid integration.
It plays a key advisory role in shaping interconnection strategies, ensuring compliance with technical requirements, and improving system transfer capabilities.
The role also contributes to the development of advanced modeling approaches and supports the adoption of modern engineering tools, including automation and AI.
This is a remote position based in Canada, working within a highly technical and collaborative consulting environment.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead and support transmission system planning studies, including load flow, stability, short circuit, and EMT analysis
  • Conduct interconnection assessments for new generation projects, including model development and conceptual single-line diagram design
  • Evaluate ISO/RTO feasibility and system impact studies and provide technical recommendations to clients
  • Identify transmission constraints, transfer limits, and system reliability issues through advanced power system modeling
  • Develop and validate steady-state, dynamic, and short-circuit simulation models for interconnection applications
  • Use and maintain power system analysis tools such as PSS/E, PSLF, and TARA for planning studies
  • Support clients in understanding regulatory and technical requirements for grid interconnection processes
  • Contribute to engineering workflow improvements, including automation, scripting, and AI-enabled analysis tools
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to junior engineers and multidisciplinary project teams
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience)
  • 6+ years of experience in power systems engineering within a utility, consulting, or energy infrastructure environment
  • Strong expertise in transmission planning studies, including load flow and contingency analysis
  • Hands-on experience with power system simulation tools such as PSS/E, PSLF, or TARA
  • Solid understanding of transmission constraints, voltage stability, and system reliability analysis
  • Familiarity with ISO/RTO markets and frameworks (e.g., PJM, MISO, NYISO, ERCOT, CAISO, etc.)
  • Experience with stability analysis, short circuit studies, or EMT modeling is an asset
  • Exposure to tools such as PSCAD, CAPE, or ASPEN is considered a strong advantage
  • Programming or scripting experience (e.g., Python, JavaScript) is beneficial
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical communication skills
  • Ability to lead technical discussions and guide engineering teams toward optimized solutions
  • Interest or experience in automation, AI tools, or computational engineering workflows is a plus
Benefits:
  • Competitive salary range: $130,193 – $179,016 CAD
  • Annual discretionary bonus eligibility
  • Comprehensive health and wellness benefits package
  • Generous paid time off and work-life balance support
  • Remote work flexibility across Canada
  • Exposure to advanced power system modeling and interconnection projects
  • Opportunity to work with leading utilities, ISOs, and energy developers
  • Professional development in automation, scripting, and AI-enabled engineering tools
  • Award-winning workplace culture recognized for compensation and benefits excellence
