Basic Functions and Scope of Responsibility
The Bus Driver is responsible for providing safe, reliable, and courteous transportation for YMCA program participants. This includes transporting children and adults to and from YMCA programs, field trips, and events, while ensuring compliance with all traffic laws, safety standards, and YMCA policies. The Bus Driver plays a key role in maintaining a positive YMCA experience and building trust with families and the community.
Role Responsibilities
- Safely transport participants to and from YMCA programs, schools, and events according to assigned routes and schedules
- Conduct pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections and maintain accurate records of mileage, maintenance needs, and passenger logs
- Ensure the safety of all passengers through proper supervision, safe driving practices, and adherence to YMCA transportation policies
- Maintain cleanliness and readiness of the vehicle at all times
- Communicate professionally and respectfully with children, families, and staff
- Report any incidents, accidents, or vehicle concerns promptly to appropriate YMCA leadership
- Support staff during pick-up and drop-off transitions, ensuring participants are signed in and out appropriately
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support the safe and effective operation of YMCA programs
Education, Experience & Training
- Minimum age: 21
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Valid Indiana driver’s license with clean driving record
- CDL with passenger endorsement preferred
- 3 years of driving experience required
- CPR,AED and First Aid certification obtained within30 days of employment
- Prior experience transporting children or passengers is preferred
- Ability to pass a background check, drug screening, and all state-required training
- Strong communication and decision-making skills

Work Environment and Physical Demands
- Visual, auditory, and verbal ability to communicate effectively.
- Must have high level of alertness, concentration, and initiative.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. and stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time; occasionally stoop/bend.
- Maintain a neat and professional appearance at all times.
