Role or Purpose of Position
The Associate Director of Business Development is an experienced and results-oriented senior fundraiser capable of securing and managing high-value corporate and foundation accounts in support of Vitamin Angel’s global programming activities. This individual will be responsible for securing and stewarding seven-figure investments through strategic corporate and foundation partnerships, while building a sustainable multi-year pipeline capable of generating six to seven figure investments annually.
The ideal candidate is a sophisticated relationship builder and strategic business developer with a demonstrated track record of securing transformational gifts, managing complex donor relationships, and aligning philanthropic investments with measurable global impact. The role requires exceptional communication, strategic thinking, collaboration, and donor stewardship capabilities.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Pipeline Development and Relationship Management
- Build and manage a healthy prospect pipeline with clear revenue forecasting, donor engagement plans, and portfolio analytics, leading to six to seven figure annual revenue generation.
- Manage and drive all stages of the fundraising cycle for the assigned portfolio including prospecting, relationship management, asks, renewals, reporting, and strategic account growth.
- Monitor fundraising performance against goals and provide regular pipeline and revenue reporting to senior leadership.
- Establish and deepen relationships with senior executives, corporate social responsibility leaders, foundation officers, and/or other philanthropic decision-makers.
- Ensure exceptional donor experience through proactive communication, impact reporting, and strategic stewardship planning.
- Utilize Salesforce CRM and donor intelligence tools to manage relationships, track engagement activity, and support forecasting accuracy.
Strategy, Thought Leadership & Organizational Collaboration
- Continuously assess emerging philanthropic trends, corporate and foundation funding priorities, and strategic partnership opportunities relevant to global health and nutrition
- Collaborate with Vitamin Angels senior leadership on high-priority donor engagements and strategic partnership opportunities.
- Support development of compelling institutional messaging, partnership concepts, and funding proposals tied to measurable global health outcomes, in collaboration with Development, Marketing, and Programs
- Represent Vitamin Angels at conferences, donor meetings, and sector events as needed.
- Coordinate cross-functional engagement within Vitamin Angels to support donor opportunities and stewardship activities.
Level of Decision-Making
Within the bounds of VA’s mission, values and policies, and sound professional practices,
the Associate Director Business Development here has the discretion to use independent judgment to make decisions of significant consequence that affect VA clients, partners, and employees. Specific authorities associated with this position and their implementation procedures will be determined in conjunction with the Director of Business Development and Chief Development Officer.
Organizational Relationships
VA operates under a collaborative, matrix management model. The Associate Director Business Development establishes their own daily work priorities and ensures that all responsibilities are conducted consistent with accepted best practices, sound professional judgment and within an established schedule and budget.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Minimum, Necessary, and Desired)
Minimum Required Experience
- Final round candidates will be expected to provide 3 professional references including at least 2 former supervisors, preferably from their most recent positions.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Demonstrated track record of generating and managing fundraising portfolios and revenue growth from corporate and foundation funders.
- Ability to communicate programmatic impact into compelling donor-facing narratives.
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, collaborative, mission-driven environment.
- High emotional intelligence and ability to influence across internal and external stakeholders.
- Proficiency with CRM systems, fundraising analytics tools, and Microsoft Office.

Necessary
- 8-10 years progressive relevant experience with a minimum of 5 years of experience managing strategic relationships and developing partnerships
- Proven ability to independently develop prospect pipelines and close complex, multi-year philanthropic partnerships as an embedded employee of a large nonprofit organization.
- Experience managing sophisticated donor relationships with senior executives
- Ability to manage stress, including but not limited to, stress resulting from local and foreign travel, large crowds, open spaces, shared office space, and daily activities with reasonable accommodations.
- Ability to lift, or carry, approximately 20-40 lbs. on a regular basis.
- Ability to remain seated and/or stationary for extended periods of time, including but not limited to prolonged air travel, and general job assignments performed at a desk.
- Must have a valid passport, necessary travel visas, government-issued identification and the ability to travel internationally (this requirement applies only to positions where international travel is a key job function).
- Ability to walk or hike in conditions which may include uneven surfaces, inclinations, stairs, extreme weather, long distances, elevation changes or extremes, and/or other conditions associated with foreign travel.
- Ability to receive necessary vaccines and medication for travel to certain countries.
Desired
- Strong understanding of global health, international development, nutrition, humanitarian, or public health funding landscapes preferred.
- Master’s degree a plus.
