Job Description

SUMMARY: As a Traveling Civil Journeyworker / Construction Craft Labor Journeyworker, you will apply your extensive skills and experience to perform a wide range of construction tasks. You will work independently or lead small teams on various projects, ensuring high-quality workmanship and adherence to safety standards.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform construction tasks such as racking and panel assembly, hand digging trenches, backfilling and material organization.
  • Assist Journeyworker tradespeople such as laborers, masons, and equipment operators.
  • Supervise and mentor apprentices and less experienced laborers.
  • Perform advanced construction tasks, including complex structural installations and finishes.
  • Lead the setup and pour of concrete projects, ensuring quality control throughout the process.
  • Operate a variety of construction equipment, including backhoes, excavators, bulldozers, and loaders.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve construction-related issues on-site.
  • Ensure compliance with project specifications, safety regulations, and quality standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used.
  • Follow all safety guidelines and contribute to a safe work environment.
  • Receive and retain feedback and direction from your Foreman.
  • Follow directions and complete tasks assigned in a timely manner. Communicate any delays.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • In addition to the above, other required qualifications for this role are:
  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Completion of Civil Technician 4 / Construction Craft Labor Apprentice 4 or equivalent experience.
  3. Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in civil construction, including earthwork, grading, excavation, and/or concrete work.
  4. Ability to read and interpret complex construction plans and specifications.
  5. Extensive knowledge of construction tools, equipment, and techniques.
  6. Strong leadership and communication skills.
  7. Problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
  8. Proficiency with construction tools and equipment.
  9. Physical stamina and ability to perform manual labor, including lifting heavy objects and working in various weather conditions.
  10. Ability to adhere to safety standards and practices.
  11. This position requires up to 100% travel and the ability to work at various locations as business needs dictate. Per diem may be provided to employees who qualify under the company's Travel and Per Diem Policy.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, walk, lift, squat, push, pull, climb stairs, ladders, hear, see, reach, grasp and use hands and fingers to operate a telephone, power tools, and equipment. The employee must have the ability to occasionally lift more than 50 lbs.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is exposed to extreme weather conditions, including heat and cold, and wet or humid. The employee may work in high places, and/or work around moving mechanical parts, vehicles, and other equipment. The employee may also work in areas where the noise volume is loud and constant. The employee must have the ability to work overtime and to travel to remote job sites approximately 60 – 80% of their work week which will include overnight stays.
