Full Stack Engineer (Rails) in at WILCORE TECHNOLOGIES INC

About the Role

This is a back-end leaning full-stack position supporting the VA Notify notification portal. You'll join a stable, established Agile engineering team focused on maintaining and extending a mission-critical production system used to deliver notifications and communications to veterans and internal business users.

This position is contingent upon contract award. Employment is dependent on Wilcore being awarded the associated federal contract. Candidates selected for this role will be contacted regarding a start date once award is confirmed. What You'll Be Doing

• Build and maintain API endpoints and services that proxy requests to other applications, including integrations over message queues, XML, and JSON
• Develop and maintain a Ruby on Rails application supporting the notification portal, along with related backend services
• Write code, develop unit and integration tests, and debug issues across the stack
• Contribute occasional front-end work using established design system components
• Provide input on high-level architecture and coding decisions alongside fellow engineers
• Coordinate with other business lines adopting the notification platform and support internal business users
• Participate in periodic accessibility compliance reviews
• Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle, from gathering and analyzing requirements to designing, building, and testing solutions

What You'll Bring

• 5+ years of experience working with Ruby on Rails
• Minimum of 3 years working in an Agile software development environment
• Strong programming experience in a major open source language (Ruby, Python, Go, Java, or JavaScript)
• Solid understanding of core web technologies: HTTP, SSL, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JSON, and XML
• Experience integrating systems via message queues
• Experience building and testing APIs, with a strong emphasis on unit and integration testing
• Ability to write clean, readable code that's easy for other engineers to understand and maintain
• Experience across the full software development lifecycle — from requirements gathering through design, build, test, and deployment
• Comfort participating in design discussions, code reviews, and cross-team collaboration
• US Citizenship and ability to obtain a low-level security clearance

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience with VA or other federal government systems
• Experience with AWS, particularly EC2, S3, and RDS
• Familiarity with a front-end JavaScript framework (Angular, React, Backbone, or similar)
• Experience with JSON Schema Form libraries (e.g., react-jsonschema-form)
• Experience with automated accessibility testing tools (e.g., Axe, pa11y)
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience

Team & Work Environment

• Works within a two-week Agile sprint cycle, with regular stand-ups, retrospectives, and sprint refinements
• Participates in a periodic support rotation handling user access and delivery-related inquiries
• Joins recurring engineering syncs focused on process improvements and technical tooling
• Supports a stable, well-established system — this role centers on maintaining and enhancing production functionality rather than greenfield development
