Job Description
Job Summary:
The Neonatal Ambulance Driver is responsible for safely operating and maintaining the neonatal transport ambulance while transporting neonatal patients and medical personnel to and from referring hospitals. The driver will ensure safe, timely transportation, comply with all applicable traffic and ambulance safety regulations, and assist the neonatal transport team as needed during transport operations. Performs all other job duties as assigned and complies with all departmental and neonatal transport policies.
Performance Expectation:
- Operates the neonatal ambulance safely and professionally while maintaining a high level of situational awareness.
- Adheres to all traffic laws and hospital transport policies.
- Responds promptly to transport requests and maintains dependable arrival times (within 30 minutes) to support timely transfer of patients.
- Performs basic pre- and post-trip inspections and promptly reports any mechanical, safety, or equipment concerns to supervisor.
- Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with the neonatal transport team, referring hospitals, families, and all other healthcare personnel.
- Demonstrates dependability, professionalism, confidentiality and appropriate conduct at all times while representing the hospital and neonatal transport service.
- Demonstrate ability to follow safety precautions during patient/resident transport to ensure the well-being of oneself, patients, and other staff members (i.e., avoids improper lifting, properly disposes of sharps, maintains infection control procedures, consistently cleans work area on own initiative to facilitate efficient work, and avoids damaging equipment).
- Demonstrates the willingness and ability to actively participate in helping achieve the objectives of the transport service; able to work independently as well as with a team
- Demonstrate the ability to be flexible with changing priorities; able to tolerate high stress situations / mental demands and collaborate with supervisor to make decisions that are ethically and legally sound.
Qualifications:
Education/Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent required, transportation/driver experience preferred.
Work Experience:
- Previous experience operating an ambulance, medical transport vehicle, or other commercial or safety personnel vehicle is preferred.
Certification/Licensure-DUE UPON HIRE
- Valid Drivers Licenses
Additional Certification/Licensure - Obtained based on required timeframe below
- Basic Life Support
Required
- EMS Driver Certificaion (EMS-D) valid in Misssissippi
Required
