Description:

MANUFACTURING ESTIMATOR

Employment Type: Full-Time

About MDC Precision

MDC Precision is a leading provider of high-quality precision components and manufacturing solutions serving the semiconductor, aerospace, research, life sciences, and other advanced technology markets.

Our customers rely on MDC Precision for highly engineered components used in demanding applications where precision, quality, reliability, and performance are critical. Our capabilities include vacuum technology, precision machining and fabrication, gas delivery products, ultra-high-purity manufacturing, and custom-engineered solutions.

Position Overview

MDC Precision is seeking an experienced Manufacturing Estimator to develop accurate, competitive quotations for custom precision-manufactured components and assemblies.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who understands how parts are actually made. The ideal candidate can review engineering drawings and customer specifications, determine appropriate manufacturing methods, estimate material and production costs, develop manufacturing routings, and translate those requirements into accurate customer quotations.

We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in precision machining, CNC manufacturing, fabrication, manufacturing engineering, process planning, estimating, or technical quoting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review customer drawings, blueprints, specifications, and statements of work to develop accurate manufacturing cost estimates and quotations.
  • Determine appropriate manufacturing processes, materials, labor requirements, machine time, routings, and outside processing necessary to produce customer components.
  • Develop quotations for both standard and custom precision-manufactured products.
  • Evaluate machining, welding, fabrication, assembly, and outside-processing requirements.
  • Work closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Planning, Purchasing, Sales, and Finance to develop accurate and competitive quotations.
  • Obtain and evaluate supplier pricing for raw materials, purchased components, and outside processing.
  • Identify opportunities to improve manufacturability, reduce cost, and improve lead times.
  • Review product designs and manufacturing requirements and recommend alternative materials or processes when appropriate.
  • Develop product structures, manufacturing routings, and cost information within the company's ERP/MRP system.
  • Perform post-production cost analysis by comparing estimated costs against actual manufacturing costs and identifying opportunities to improve estimating accuracy.
  • Communicate directly with customers and internal sales teams when technical clarification is required during the quotation process.
  • Review customer statements of work and ensure quotations accurately reflect specifications, requirements, exceptions, and deviations.
  • Help develop and improve estimating and quotation standards, processes, and tools.
Requirements:

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in manufacturing estimating, process planning, manufacturing engineering, CNC machining/programming, fabrication, or a closely related manufacturing environment.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Working knowledge of precision manufacturing processes such as CNC machining, milling, turning, welding, fabrication, assembly, and outside processing.
  • Ability to estimate material requirements, labor, machine time, tooling, outside processing, and other manufacturing costs.
  • Understanding of manufacturing routings, bills of material, and product cost structures.
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience working with ERP/MRP systems.
  • Ability to work effectively across Engineering, Operations, Purchasing, Sales, and Finance.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers regarding technical requirements and quotations.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience within semiconductor, vacuum technology, aerospace, high-purity gas delivery, or other precision manufacturing environments.
  • Experience estimating custom machined or fabricated components.
  • Knowledge of vacuum components and gas delivery systems.
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics AX or similar ERP platforms.
  • Experience performing estimated-versus-actual manufacturing cost analysis.
  • Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Business, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent hands-on manufacturing experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

What Success Looks Like

A successful Manufacturing Estimator at MDC Precision understands both cost and manufacturability. You will be able to look at a customer drawing and determine not only what it should cost to manufacture, but also the processes, materials, equipment, suppliers, and production steps required to build it successfully. Your work will directly impact MDC Precision's ability to respond quickly to customers, win new business, protect margins, and manufacture products efficiently.
