Job Description

Technical Writer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Technical Writer based in France.

We are looking for a technically minded Technical Writer to make complex software products accessible through clear, practical, and user-focused documentation. In this role, you will create and maintain documentation covering user interfaces, developer integrations, software development kits (SDKs), and REST APIs. Working in a docs-as-code environment, you will collaborate with engineers, product managers, and customer-facing teams to ensure documentation is accurate, useful, and easy to follow. You will have significant ownership of the documentation roadmap, helping prioritize improvements and tackle an existing backlog. This hands-on position combines writing, coding, research, and troubleshooting in a remote, asynchronous-first environment. It is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys simplifying technical concepts, taking initiative, and improving the developer experience.

Accountabilities
  • Create, maintain, and improve technical documentation across multiple software products, including end-user guides, SDK integration instructions, REST API references, and other developer resources.

  • Write and manage documentation using Markdown or MDX within a Git-based repository and publish content through a Docusaurus documentation website.

  • Take ownership of a significant portion of the documentation portfolio, helping shape the documentation roadmap and prioritize work from an existing backlog.

  • Work closely with developers, product managers, support engineers, and solutions engineers to gather information, clarify technical details, and ensure documentation accurately reflects product behavior.

  • Test documentation by running products, following user workflows, and integrating SDK code into sample or mock applications to validate instructions and identify potential issues.

  • Read and investigate code across different programming languages to understand product functionality, trace changes, and produce accurate technical explanations.

  • Contribute to CI operations and internal documentation, and develop lightweight tools or workflows that improve documentation quality and efficiency.

  • Participate in product development discussions, represent user needs, and advocate for improvements that make products easier to understand and integrate.

  • Manage documentation projects independently, balancing competing priorities and release deadlines while maintaining high standards of accuracy and clarity.

  • Use AI tools extensively for research, exploration, and prototyping while carefully reviewing outputs to ensure documentation remains accurate, relevant, and genuinely helpful.

  • Work primarily asynchronously, coordinating with stakeholders and organizing occasional meetings to move projects forward effectively.

Requirements:
  • Professional experience in technical writing, software engineering, support engineering, solutions engineering, or a related role involving the creation of clear technical documentation.

  • Strong writing and editing skills, with a clear commitment to accuracy, simplicity, readability, and helping users successfully understand and integrate software products.

  • Basic programming ability and the confidence to read and navigate codebases. Familiarity with TypeScript, Kotlin, Swift, .NET, or C++ is beneficial, but experience with programming languages more generally is also valuable.

  • Working knowledge of Git and GitHub-based collaboration workflows, including contributing to and reviewing documentation changes through pull requests.

  • Basic command-line proficiency, ideally in a Linux or Unix-like environment, including navigating directories, managing permissions, and connecting to systems through SSH.

  • Ability to investigate technical issues independently, trace changes across branches or repositories, and find the right information even when it is not immediately available.

  • Strong initiative and sound judgment, with the ability to identify gaps, determine sensible next steps, and take ownership without requiring detailed instructions.

  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, particularly when interviewing technical and non-technical stakeholders to understand complex topics.

  • Willingness to use AI tools for research and prototyping while applying critical thinking and careful editorial judgment to maintain high-quality documentation.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet release deadlines in a primarily asynchronous working environment.

  • A genuine interest in making technical information accessible and improving the overall developer and user experience.

  • Previous blogging or other long-form writing experience is an advantage but not required.

  • Availability for full-time remote work and eligibility to work from Switzerland.

Benefits:
  • Fully remote work: Work remotely within the role's eligible location requirements, with a distributed team collaborating across Europe and other time zones.

  • High ownership and autonomy: Take responsibility for a substantial part of the documentation portfolio and influence priorities, processes, and long-term direction.

  • Meaningful technical work: Work across user documentation, developer integrations, SDKs, APIs, and internal engineering processes.

  • Cross-functional collaboration: Work directly with engineering, product, support, and solutions teams to understand products and improve the user experience.

  • AI-enabled workflows: Use modern AI tools to support research, experimentation, and prototyping.

  • Professional growth: Expand your technical knowledge, writing expertise, and understanding of software development practices.

  • Collaborative environment: Contribute to product discussions and help shape how complex software capabilities are communicated to users.

  • Inclusive workplace: Join an environment committed to equal opportunity and hiring decisions based on qualifications, merit, and business needs.
