Summary:

The Employment Consultant develops employment opportunities and coordinates placement, training and on-going support to maintain individuals with disabilities in competitive employment.

Supervisory Responsibilities: N/A

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of integrated work environments for individuals served.
  • Conduct job development, job analysis, and community resource assessment as well as assessment of skills, abilities, desires, and needs of individuals served using a compatibility analysis.
  • Provide training and instruction on work and related skills using a variety of systematic instructional techniques and support strategies.
  • Collect and interpret instructional data and implement systematic fading techniques.
  • Collect performance data and elicit employer evaluations of assigned supported employment participants.
  • Determine need for retraining and provide services as needed, minimally twice per month.
  • Coordinate, facilitate and/or actively participate in person-centered planning meetings for assigned caseload and/or as requested by individuals served or other team members.
  • Communicating regularly with both employers and individuals served to assure employment success and satisfaction.
  • Ensure that all communication takes place in a professional manner, reflecting dignity and respect for individuals served.
  • Utilize effective verbal, written and electronic communication in daily interactions and in team, department, and other meetings, to accomplish tasks and clarify information for all internal and external customers.
  • Ensure the implementation of vocational and related support for individuals assigned.
  • Promote health and safety of all staff and individuals served through adherence to all agency policies and procedures.
  • Maintain all appropriate information in a confidential and professional manner, and in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
  • Adhere to the organization’s Code of Ethics and support the identified Position Statements.
  • Utilize identified agency software database to accurately and consistently document and update client demographic information, progress toward outcomes, and services provided as necessary to meet billing/productivity requirements.
  • Prepare all necessary reports (i.e. progress notes, monthly reports, incident reports, etc.) according to established timelines and in adherence to agency guidelines.
  • Coordinate supports outside the work environment with available community resources
  • Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.
Requirements:
  • Ability to promote and market program benefits to potential employers
  • Ability to plan and organize work activities/processes, use discretion and sound judgment, take initiative and demonstrate flexibility to ensure goals are achieved in a timely manner
  • Ability to use strategic thinking to understand and implement changes in anticipation of events and circumstances.
  • Customer service, negotiation and networking skills to establish contacts for the purpose of connecting service to persons served.

Education and Experience:

  • Associate’s degree (or equivalent 2 years credit towards an advanced degree) in human services or a closely related business field, such as education, rehabilitation, marketing, etc. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Prefer two years work experience in human services supporting individuals with disabilities.
  • Experience in job analysis and work-site training, as well as an understanding of supported employment practices preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must have ability to lift/move materials weighing up to 50 lbs. periodically
