About This Position

Job Purpose: Journeyman electricians are responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical systems. They work with blueprints to figure out how the systems are supposed to work. Then, they use that information to troubleshoot electrical problems and come up with solutions for them. A journeyman electrician needs to have a deep familiarity with various types of electrical systems, fixtures, and components. They must be able to repair electrical uses with a variety of tools and techniques. Their work also requires them to follow OSHA safety requirements and to safely use ladders, scaffolding, and platforms.

Essential Functions

• Interprets technical drawings to determine the layout of electrical systems.

• Diagnoses and troubleshoots faulty wiring.

• Runs tests on generators and other backup systems.

• Checks for and deploy upgrades of electrical components.

• Documents problems and prepares reports.

• Facilitates order of needed electrical components.

• Read and interpret electrical blueprints.

• Use a variety of tools and techniques to repair and maintain electrical systems.

• Use your knowledge to determine the best way to install new electrical systems.

• Answer any questions that our customers may have about their electrical systems and components.

• Ensure that you follow all safety requirements and OSHA guidelines while you work.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent

• Valid driver’s license

• Formal electrician training

• Ability to use a wide variety of electrician tools and techniques.

• Ability to interpret electrical blueprints and schematics.

• Relevant hands-on experience preferred.

• Electrician license or certification

• In-depth knowledge of electrical principles, construction, wiring schematics

• Deep understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and other safety standards

• Strong analytical and organizational skills

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Five years experience in electrical field

• Walk or run for long periods of time.

• Climb ladders, scaffolds, or poles.

• Focus on one source of sound and ignore others.

Work Environment

• Continual walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, and heavy lifting and carrying. Work in tiring and uncomfortable positions, around electrical power lines, outside and inside.

• Exposure to extreme temperatures.

• Frequent district-wide travel.
