Job Description

Position Summary:
The Career Counselor is a scholar-centered, outcomes-driven role responsible for guiding individuals through career exploration, employment readiness, and successful workforce entry. This work spans multiple regions and requires developing and maintaining knowledge of each region to support scholar success. This position delivers high-touch, individualized career guidance that aligns scholars’ interests, skills, and life circumstances with viable career pathways.
The Career Counselor plays a critical role in supporting persistence, employment readiness, and placement outcomes by helping scholars navigate career decisions, build professional skills, and connect to employment opportunities aligned with training and program goals.

Position Responsibilities
Career Assessment & Individual Counseling
•Conduct one-on-one career counseling sessions to assess interests, strengths, values, barriers, and career goals.
•Administer, interpret, and translate career and personality assessments into actionable career plans.
•Support scholars through career decision-making, career transitions, and re-entry into the workforce.
•Track the scholar journey from counseling session to completion of upskilling and career advancement.

Career Planning & Goal Alignment
•Assist scholars in developing clear, achievable short- and long-term career goals aligned with training pathways and labor market demand.
•Guide scholars in understanding career ladders, credentialing requirements, and employment expectations within target industries.
•Align individual career plans with programming milestones, timelines, and employment outcomes.

Employment Readiness & Job Search Support
•Provide hands-on support with resume development, cover letters, interview preparation, and professional communication.
•Coach scholars on job search strategies, networking techniques, and professional brand development.
•Facilitate workshops on job readiness, workplace expectations, and employment success strategies.

Employer & Workforce Engagement
•Build and maintain relationships with employers, workforce partners, and community organizations to support placement opportunities.
•Stay informed on local labor market trends, hiring needs, and industry requirements.
•Connect scholars to employment opportunities aligned with their training, skills, and career goals.

Scholar Progress Tracking & Documentation
•Track scholar engagement, progress, and employment outcomes using internal systems and databases.
•Maintain accurate, timely case notes and career plans.
•Identify early risk indicators and collaborate with internal teams to support persistence and successful transitions.

Collaboration & Program Integration
•Work closely with training, support services, and leadership teams to ensure coordinated scholar support.
•Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by identifying trends, gaps, and opportunities within career services delivery.
•Support special initiatives, hiring events, and cohort-based programming as needed.
•Collaborate with training providers to identify scholars who are ready for upskilling and career advancement.

Licensure / Certification / Registration:
Preferred Certifications:
•National Certified Counselor (NCC)
•Certified Career Counselor (CCC)
•Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF)

Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s degree required; relevant experience may be considered.
•2–5 years of experience in career counseling, academic advising, workforce development, or a related field.
•Experience working with diverse populations and individuals facing barriers to employment.

Skills & Competencies:
•Strong interpersonal, coaching, and active listening skills.
•Ability to build trust and rapport with scholars from diverse backgrounds.
•Knowledge of career development theory, assessment tools, and labor market trends.
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
•Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
•High level of cultural competency and commitment to equity and inclusion.
•Proficiency with Microsoft Office and career management or case management platforms.
•Ability to work flexible hours and evenings, when necessary.
