Physical Requirements
The essential job functions of this position require you to: communicate and build working relationships with staff, faculty and candidates from diverse backgrounds; abide by University guidelines; maintain confidentiality; prioritize and manage work effectively; provide exceptional customer service and positively represent the university; ensure work is detailed, accurate and completed in a timely manner; perform work in a sedentary position; interact with individuals from various levels throughout the university and work successfully in a team as well as independently. The physical requirements of this position will include occasionally lifting, pushing, and/or pulling objects up to 50lbs; occasionally standing or walking with objects up to 25lbs; sitting at a computer workstation for extended periods of time with repetitive motions (such as typing); and occasional (<10% of the time) job-related travel.
Shift
Primarily Monday – Friday 8:00 am –5:00 pm; and additional hours may be required based on departmental needs.
Job Summary
The Employee Relations Specialist Senior supports the Human Resources goal of remaining a strategic member of the University community by educating and coaching employees, administrators, managers and supervisors on equitable application of policies and practices.

Primary job duties will include consulting and coaching managers and supervisors on effective ways to address workplace issues and corrective action, among other things, in accordance with University and department policy and procedure. Consulting employees on workplace issues and maintain employee relations documentation and records. Providing guidance to managers and employees regarding University policies, procedures, and other best practices. The Employee Relations Specialist Senior must have the ability to approach each scenario from all perspectives of the business needs as a whole and not just the needs of the individual.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
The ideal candidate will possess excellent written and oral communication skills, attention to detail, independent judgment and decision making, engages in active listening, objectivity, analytical and critical thinking. Must be able to interface effectively with all levels of personnel within the organization, work autonomously and maintain flexibility and adaptability. Exhibits understanding of the customer/employee’s perspective and is nonjudgmental of his/her views and actions. Knowledge of State and Federal employment laws and related liability issues is necessary, along with a high level of integrity and respect for confidentiality.

Preferred Education/Experience
Prefer Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or related field. Five (5) years of employee relations experience, highly preferred.
