About This Position
Position Summary
The Human Resources (HR) Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of human resources management to support the mission and goals of the organization. This role manages the day-to-day operations of the HR department and provides strategic and hands-on leadership in areas including recruitment, employee relations, payroll, benefits, compliance, performance management, and organizational development. The HR Manager ensures that HR policies and practices align with federal, state, and local regulations and foster a positive, productive workplace culture.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll and Benefits
- Manage and process bi-weekly payroll, including payroll setup for new employees.
- Oversee benefits administration, including enrollments, changes, and terminations.
- Ensure accurate payroll records, tax reporting, and compliance with wage and hour laws.
- Serve as primary point of contact for employee questions regarding pay, benefits, and deductions.
Compliance and Audit Support
- Ensure organizational compliance with all applicable labor laws and human resources regulations.
- Maintain HR policies, handbooks, and procedures, updating as needed.
- Provide support for internal and external audits, ensuring accurate and timely responses.
Recruitment, Onboarding, and Offboarding
- Lead recruitment efforts to attract, hire, and retain diverse and qualified talent.
- Develop job descriptions, post job openings, screen candidates, and coordinate interviews with department managers.
- Design and deliver onboarding programs to support successful employee integration.
- Manage the termination and offboarding process, including exit interviews and final documentation.
Employee Relations and Performance Management
- Serve as a trusted resource for employees and managers regarding workplace issues and concerns.
- Advise management on performance improvement plans, coaching, and employee development strategies.
- Lead the annual performance review process and ensure consistency and fairness.
HR Administration and Records Management
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records in compliance with retention and privacy regulations.
- Track and analyze HR metrics and produce regular reports for leadership.
- Coordinate with leadership to develop, implement, and communicate workplace policies.
Health and Safety
- Oversee workplace health and safety initiatives and maintain required compliance documentation.
- Serve as a point of contact for workers’ compensation claims and workplace injury investigations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required; HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR) strongly preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive HR experience, preferably in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization.
- Demonstrated knowledge of employment laws, payroll processes, and benefits administration.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to build trust across all levels of the organization.
- Proficiency with HRIS/payroll systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, prioritize multiple tasks, and work independently.

Work Environment / Physical Demands
- Must be able to sit and stand for prolonged periods.
- Occasionally required to lift or carry items up to 25 lbs.
- Comfortable working in a professional, fast-paced office environment.
Hours & Attendance
- 37.5 hours per week Monday through Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm
