Position Description

Job Summary:

The Heavy Civil Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for large-scale civil construction projects, including concrete structures, bridges, piping systems, asphalt paving, grading, and environmental construction. This role requires a deep understanding of heavy civil operations in both public and private markets, with the ability to analyze plans, specifications, and project requirements to deliver precise bids and proposals.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Collaborate with preconstruction and project teams to fully understand project scope, schedule, and requirements.
  2. Develop detailed and accurate cost estimates and quantity take-offs for all aspects of heavy civil work, including:
  3. Structural and flatwork concrete
  4. Bridge construction
  5. Underground piping and utilities
  6. Asphalt paving and grading
  7. Environmental and site development projects
  8. Prepare bid packages, cost breakdowns, and supporting documentation for timely submission.
  9. Review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and geotechnical reports.
  10. Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain competitive pricing and ensure scope coverage.
  11. Manage change order pricing and assist with project cost control during execution.
  12. Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and project coordination sessions with senior estimators, project managers, and field leadership.
  13. Maintain accurate records of estimates, proposals, and progress reports for internal and client review.

Position Requirements

Qualifications:

  1. Experience: Minimum 5–7 years of estimating experience in heavy civil construction (bridges, concrete, piping, asphalt, grading, environmental).
  2. Technical Skills:
  3. Proficiency with estimating software (e.g., HCSS HeavyBid, Bid2Win, or similar).
  4. Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, civil plans, and specifications.
  5. High school diploma required; degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred.
  6. Exceptional attention to detail and analytical skills.
  7. Strong communication and negotiation abilities.
  8. Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites as needed.
