About This Position

American Wood Fibers (AWF) is a manufacturer of both consumer and industrial products that are sold to multiple manufacturers as well as pet, agricultural, and home-heating markets. AWF is comprised of 400+ employees and holds operations at 11 locations, generating over $100M in annual sales revenue. We are currently seeking a candidate for the 3rd Shift Production Lead position in our Jamestown, CA facility.


RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary duties to include, but not limited to the following:

SAFETY:

  • Active participant in the safety committee and enforces safety on a daily basis. Responsible for safety, cleanliness and good housekeeping of entire plant with emphasis on meeting OSHA standards. Conducts or assists in regular safety meetings on a monthly basis or as needed.

PRODUCTION:

  • Leads Production Operators and coordinates activities of plant employees in wood shaving production. Trains and assists employees in order to complete assignments according to proper plant procedures. Analyzes shift duties to determine correct amount of time and material required to complete orders in the most efficient manner.
  • Gives instructions to employees regarding jobs to be completed and the proper method in which to complete them.
  • Supervises plant for cleanliness, safety, quality control and optimum production.
  • Confers with other leads and communicates with peers, subordinates and management in a professional manner to assure assignments are being properly completed.
  • Coordinates with maintenance technicians on building and machinery repair in order to ensure a safe and well-maintained work environment.
  • Attends a daily production meeting which includes but not limited to; review of open orders vs current inventory levels, coordination of machine change outs, inspection and review of inbound material quality, bag inventory and reorder point levels, downtime monitoring and reporting, and other duties as assigned. Establishes personal goals and works with fellow employees towards continuous improvement and teamwork.

SHIPPING AND RECEIVING:

  • Supervises loading and unloading of trucks and completion of paperwork. Verifies incoming shipments, completes a daily inventory count and production report, as well as a month-end inventory count and report.

EVALUATIONS:

  • Provides accurate information on performance evaluations for shift employees.
  • Monitors attendance of subordinates as well as compliance to plant rules.
  • Recommends and implements disciplinary action as required.

QUALITY:

  • Maintains and verifies that all current quality assurance measures are being followed and communicated to production employees. Assists in the design and implementation of new procedures as needed.

HOUSEKEEPING:

  • Sets goals and expectations and communicates purpose, looks for ways to eliminate problem sources and monitors housekeeping and provides related feedback.

PERSONAL GROWTH:

  • Attends and participates in scheduled meeting of the plant. Be alert to those around you, including peers, reporting personnel, customers; learning as you listen and observe.
  • Establish personal goals and work with fellow employees towards continuous improvement to utilize, stretch and further develop our individual and collective abilities.
  • Secondary duties: Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3 years of relevant production and maintenance experience.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the principles and applications associated with manufacturing operations and maintenance.
  • Previous experience/broad understanding of safety systems and enforcement of safety rules and policies
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate/lead, assess and develop employee skills
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills, with the ability to balance production and maintenance needs
  • Highly motivated, results oriented, driven and ability to work in a fast-paced environment

COMPENSATION

$20.00 - $24.00 hourly
