Job Description
Position Summary:
The Emergency Medical Studies Department maintains an ongoing pool of qualified adjunct candidates to support instruction in both the EMT and Paramedic programs.
Adjunct EMT & Paramedic Assistants provide instructional support in laboratory, simulation, and clinical preparation settings. Candidates selected from this pool will be contacted on an as-needed basis depending on programmatic demand, enrollment, and scheduling needs.
Responsibilities:
Instructional & Academic Responsibilities
- Provide instruction using both traditional and non-traditional learning methodologies, including but not limited to:
- Learning management systems
- Active learning strategies
- Instructional preparation and delivery
- Assist with EMT and Paramedic laboratory sessions, simulations, and skills instruction
- Support scenario-based training, including high- and low-fidelity simulation and OSCE-style assessments
- In collaboration with EMT instructors and paramedic faculty, develop and implement laboratory learning experiences aligned with course objectives and student learning outcomes
Student Evaluation & Engagement
- Assess student performance and learning outcomes in classroom, lab, and simulation settings
- Submit final grades and required documentation in a timely manner
- Be available to students by appointment at mutually convenient times
- Provide feedback to support student progression, remediation, and clinical readiness
Program, Compliance & Professional Responsibilities
- Support program compliance with OEMS, NREMT, and CoAEMSP standards
- Assist with documentation, skills tracking, and program reporting requirements
- Maintain current:
- Massachusetts EMT certification
- Massachusetts EMS Instructor/Coordinator certification
- Perform additional duties as required by the College
Clinical & Field Readiness
- Assist in preparing students for clinical and field internship experiences
- Reinforce professional standards, patient care expectations, and documentation practices
- Support lab safety, equipment readiness, and infection control standards
Requirements:
- Current Massachusetts EMT or Paramedic certification (required)
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse student populations
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of EMS field experience preferred
- Current American Heart Association certifications:
- BLS (EMT level) Instructor Preferred
- ACLS (Paramedic level) Instructor Preferred
- PALS (Paramedic level) Instructor Preferred
- Current Instructor-Coordinator (IC) certification (strongly preferred)
- Prior teaching, precepting, or Field Training Officer experience
- Experience with simulation-based EMS education
- Familiarity with EMS educational platforms (e.g., PlatinumEd/EMSTesting)
- Associate’s degree or higher preferred
Additional Information:
Salary: $1,512 per credit hour.
Work Environment & Schedule:
- Assignments are made based on program needs and may include:
- Evening labs (typically 5:30 PM – 9:30 PM)
- Occasional daytime, weekend, or clinical support shifts
- Work may occur across BHCC campuses and affiliated clinical/field sites
