Essential Functions
Universal is seeking a dynamic and passionate Assistant Dean of Students to work in an urban setting in Philadelphia, PA. The Assistant Dean will work to create a warm and welcoming school culture that is driven by student achievement, and teachers are committed to high expectations and dedicated support for students.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Administer student discipline and policies and procedures related to student conduct, discipline and student rights and responsibilities.
- Maintain building standards for student conduct, recommend suspensions and expulsions for administrative approval.
- Supervise students in lunchrooms, hallways, classes, on buses, activities and curricular program, and other programs held under sanction.
- Maintain liaison with parents on discipline and attendance matters.
- Contact parents as needed, conduct parent, student and teacher conferences on discipline and attendance.
- Maintain positive public and community relations.
- Conduct investigations related to student conduct and complaints.
- Coordinate with school security, police, parents, students, the community, and the public and other agencies.
- Provide recommendations to administrators as appropriate.
- Serves as a member of school leadership team, attend meetings, communicate information and participate in instructional development within the school.
- Provide a variety of insights, recommendations, and reports and assist in implementing building decisions.
- Cooperate with Principal and/or Assistant Principal and provide input to staff as appropriate.
- Monitor students during lunch periods.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Associate’s Degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Have 2 years of experience in a school setting, monitoring and supervising school climate and culture.
- Demonstrate commitment to the school's mission and success.
- Model professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and community.
- Participate in training and professional development activities.
- Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits such as: meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, and coordinating with peers.
- Abides by applicable policies and procedures and state and federal education regulations.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
