Job Description

Electroencephalography (EEG) Technologist

The EEG Technologist operates electroencephalographs and related diagnostic equipment, such as evoked potential (EP) devices, to record the electrical activity of the brain. This role requires an expert capable of maintaining state-of-the-art quality in EEG principles and practices while working closely with physicians from the Neurology Service and the Epilepsy Center of Excellence.
Location: VA Puget Sound Health Care System, Seattle Campus
Schedule: Monday Friday, 07:00 15:30 or 07:30 16:00 (Flexibility for rare overtime/weekends)

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Procedures: Independently perform routine and non-standard procedures, including Awake, Sleep, Portable, and Electrocerebral Silence (ECS) EEGs.
Long-Term Monitoring: Independently perform Long-Term Monitoring (LTM) and CCTV-EEG monitoring, including extended 10/20 electrode placement.
Complex Environments: Conduct high-quality studies in demanding settings such as operating rooms, intensive care units, and research environments.
Data Analysis: Perform on-line analysis during testing to ensure the collection of necessary data for accurate medical diagnosis.
Patient Monitoring: Utilize sophisticated equipment for continuous video-EEG monitoring of patients with undiagnosed spells.
Administrative Duties: Complete all required laboratory and hospital administrative documentation for every test performed and assist with laboratory supply inventory.
Reporting: Report specific patient outcome information and complications to the Service Line Chief.

Qualifications & Requirements

Licensure: Must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license in any U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
Certification/Registration: Registration through the American Board of Registration of EEG, CNIM and EP Technologists (ABRET) or the American Association of Electrodiagnostic Techs (AAET) is required.
Life Support: Must maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
Experience: Must be technically proficient and able to perform specialized procedures independently under the direction of the Director of the Epilepsy Center of Excellence.
Language: Must be able to speak, understand, read, and write English fluently.

Physical Demands

Ability to perform all position activities without restriction.
Moderate physical effort, including lifting or carrying up to 50100 lbs.
Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
Frequent reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching to position or transfer patients and move heavy equipment.

Compliance & Security

Credentialing: Must successfully complete the VA credentialing process (VetPro) and be approved by the Professional Standards Board.
Background Investigation: Must pass a background security investigation in accordance with VA Directive 0710.
Training: Completion of annual VA Cyber Security Awareness, Rules of Behavior, and Privacy training is mandatory.
