About This Position
Position Summary
The Equipment Operator is responsible for operating heavy equipment safely and efficiently to support erosion control, site development, and environmental service projects.
This position ensures equipment is used properly, production goals are met, and jobsite safety standards are upheld.
Operators are critical contributors to production performance and company profitability.
Primary Responsibilities
Equipment Operation
Operate assigned equipment, including (as applicable):
● Excavators
● Skid steers
● Dozers
● Loaders
● Backhoes
● Trenchers
● Vacuum trucks
● Compaction equipment
Operate equipment according to project plans and the Superintendent's direction.
Safety Compliance
● Follow all OSHA and company safety standards
● Participate in daily safety briefings
● Identify hazards immediately
● Use proper PPE at all times
● Stop work if unsafe conditions arise
Equipment Inspection & Care
● Perform daily pre-trip inspections
● Complete equipment inspection reports
● Identify maintenance issues promptly
● Maintain clean and organized equipment
● Protect company assets from misuse
Production & Efficiency
● Execute tasks efficiently and accurately
● Support daily production targets
● Minimize idle time
● Coordinate with laborers and crew members
● Follow project drawings and specifications
Quality Control
● Ensure work meets project specifications
● Avoid rework by operating precisely
● Confirm grades, slopes, and placements as directed
● Communicate inconsistencies to the Superintendent
Jobsite Coordination
● Work under the direction of the Superintendent
● Communicate equipment needs
● Assist with loading/unloading materials
● Support overall crew productivity
Required Skills & Competencies
● Experience operating heavy equipment
● Knowledge of erosion control practices (preferred)
● Ability to read basic construction plans
● Strong situational awareness
● Dependability and accountability
● Ability to work outdoors in varying weather
Technical Skills:
● Equipment operation certifications (if applicable)
● Basic mechanical awareness
● Smartphone use for documentation (if required)
Minimum Qualifications
● 2+ years heavy equipment operation experience (preferred)
● Valid driver’s license
● Ability to pass drug screening (if required)
● Physical ability to lift, climb, and work in field conditions
Preferred:
● OSHA 10 certification
● CDL
● Erosion control field experience
