JOB SUMMARY

The Dental Assistant provides dental care delivery by preparing treatment rooms, patients, instruments, and materials; passing instruments and materials; performing procedures in compliance with the dental practice. This role involves a combination of clinical duties, patient interaction, and administrative tasks.

Requirements:

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Sitting, standing & walking for long periods.
  • Withstanding frequent bending, twisting and position changes while chairside.
  • Wearing many layers of PPE.
  • Tolerating moderate noise levels from dental & other office equipment.
  • Being comfortable in a clinical/dental office setting.
  • Maintaining professionalism in stressful situations.
  • Frequent client and interoffice personnel interaction, dependent heavily on customer service.
  • Able to lift at least 35 lbs. to handle equipment and supplies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist the dentist during dental procedures, including fillings, crown preparations, extractions, and root canals.
  • Prepare treatment rooms and instruments for dental procedures, ensuring disinfection.
  • Instruments processing/sterilization.
  • Expose dental X-rays and other diagnostic images as directed y the dentist.
  • Record patient medical histories and vital signs, and update patient records as needed.
  • Provide chairside assistance to dentists by passing instruments, suctioning, and maintaining a clear operating field.
  • Educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques and post-procedure care instructions.
  • Assist with patient comfort measures and address any concerns or questions they may have.
  • Maintain an inventory of dental supplies and equipment and place orders as necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with infection control protocols and maintain a clean and organized dental office environment.
  • Maintaining and flushing water and suction lines following CDC recommendations.
  • Maintaining current SDS documentation, ensuring GHS is followed.
  • Maintenance of medical emergency kits - expiration dates, including the defibrillator and pads.
  • Fabrication of study models, mouth guards, bleaching trays
  • Managing sending and receiving lab cases in a timely manner.
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as answering phones, treating patients, and handling paperwork.

  • Understands that job duties may change.

QUALIFICATIONS

EXPERIENCE:

  • Basic understanding of dental terminology, procedures, and equipment.
  • Proficiency in taking dental X-rays and maintaining sterilization protocols.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a dental team.
  • Compassion and empathy towards patients' needs and concerns.

EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of CPR course - course paid by WCDC
  • Online education dental assisting - course paid by WCDC
  • Completion of Radiology course - course paid by WCDC

Compensation Disclosure in Accordance with Vermont Act 155

In compliance with Vermont Act 155, Brattleboro Memorial Hospital provides the compensation range for this position in good faith. The listed range represents the pay scale reasonably expected for a successful candidate based on factors such as relevant experience, education, internal equity, and market competitiveness. Final compensation will be determined during the hiring process.
