Field Service Mechanic - Heavy Equipment

Position Summary:

The Field Service Mechanic AKA Customer Support Specialist is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining hoist systems and related components in a service center environment. This role requires strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to customer service. The technician will ensure high-quality repairs while supporting a positive customer experience both in the shop and during field interactions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues in hoist systems, including motors, brakes, and control components
  • Perform disassembly, inspection, repair, and reassembly of hoists and subassemblies
  • Conduct testing and verification of repaired units to ensure proper functionality and compliance with specifications
  • Utilize diagnostic tools such as multimeters to evaluate electrical components (e.g., continuity, resistance)
  • Utilize test stands to evaluate hoist repairs
  • Document repair findings, root cause analysis, and completed work accurately
  • Follow established service procedures, safety standards, and quality guidelines
  • Identify and report recurring issues or failure trends to leadership or engineering teams
  • Provide on-site support, training, and service to customers as needed
  • Deliver a high level of customer service by communicating clearly, professionally, and effectively with customers regarding repairs, findings, and product usage
  • Build and maintain positive customer relationships through responsive service and technical support
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment

Required Qualifications:

  • Bi-Lingual in Spanish and English
  • 2+ years of mechanical and/or electrical repair experience (industrial equipment preferred)
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Basic to intermediate electrical knowledge (AC/DC systems, wiring diagrams, component testing)
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics
  • Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 20% for field service and customer training
  • Commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and customer satisfaction

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with hoists, lifting equipment, or similar systems
  • Background in industrial maintenance, automotive, or heavy equipment repair
  • Experience with ERP or service documentation systems
  • Understanding of OSHA standards and safe lifting practices
  • Experience in renewable energy (wind) construction

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and move equipment up to 70lbs
  • Ability to stand, bend, and work with tools for extended periods
  • Ability to climb at heights

Work Environment:

  • 80% service center/shop environment
  • 20% field-based work at customer locations for training, maintenance/installation support, and service
