Purpose and Scope:

St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church and Annunciation Catholic School in Cave Creek, AZ, are dedicated to bringing every person into intimacy with Christ. We are seeking a dynamic Coordinator of Youth and Young Adult Ministry to help fulfill our parish mission by forming youth and young adults to love the Catholic faith and become intentional missionary disciples.

This role is responsible for developing and coordinating a comprehensive youth ministry outreach for grades six through twelve, as well as outreach and formation programs for young adults (ages 18–35). The coordinator will focus on evangelization, discipleship, fellowship, and service, fostering opportunities for young people to grow in faith and build meaningful relationships within the Church through small groups.

Working in collaboration with the Pastor, Director of Discipleship and Adult Faith Formation, and our School Religion Teacher, the coordinator will ensure that youth and young adult evangelization aligns with Catholic teachings and parish goals. Additionally, they will utilize various communication and social media tools to engage and inform youth, young adults, and parish families about ministry events and opportunities.

Essential Job Functions:

Personal Development

o The candidate must be a disciple of Jesus Christ, and open to becoming a Missionary Disciple, if not one already.

o The candidate must possess at least some of the necessary charisms for a successful youth ministry: Evangelization, Teaching, Council, Wisdom, etc.

o The candidate must be FACT – Faithful, Available, Contagious, Teachable

o The candidate must possess a regular and robust prayer life--or at least open to developing one.

Program Development

o Recruits, trains, animates, and maintains a Youth Evangelization team made up of youth and adult core leaders who hungrily strive for excellence in their work of bringing souls into intimacy with Christ.

o Responsible for oversite and implementation of all aspects of our outreach to young adults within or parish boundaries.

o Works in collaboration with the Diocese of Phoenix to provide leadership training for all volunteers; offers safe environment training and maintains records on each volunteer.

o Ensures continuity between programs for Middle School and High School teens while fostering a culture of communion and evangelization

o Will work with the Director of Discipleship & Adult Faith Formation to devise ways to evangelize entire families.

o Develops a network for attracting and reaching out to youth in community not already in parish.

o Provides weekly opportunities for youth to hear and respond to the Gospel message, including small group faith formation facilitation.

o Has office hours set aside for listening, advising and referrals.

o Plans, coordinates and implements weekend retreats and Evenings of Reflection.

o Provides discipleship opportunities to youth and young adults

o Develops the kind of relationships with parents that encourage open communication between the parent and youth.

o Plans and facilitates sacrament preparation program for youth, according to Diocesan guidelines, and in collaboration with the Coordinator of Children’s Faith Formation.

o Works to foster the Total, Personal and Spiritual growth of each young person.

o Attends special school events and sports functions and visits schools when possible.

Administration

o Prepares, submits and administers a proposed budget each year, as well as maintains accurate financial records as required by parish policy.

o Maintains necessary office and program records, including a log of activities and time.

o Prepares all sacrament certificates for those participating in the junior high and high school programs, and works with Receptionist to ensure accurate entry of information into sacramental records

o Determines effective means for publicizing and promoting programs and experiences.

o Generates and submits periodic reports to supervisor and pastor, by request

o Remains up to date with listed community agencies and resources that interface with youth.

Communication

o Maintains regular communication with teens, young adults and families through bulletin announcements, various media, direct mailing, and other contact opportunities

o Helps to verify teens, young adults and families are registered and active members of the parish

o Maintains accurate records on youth and their families.

o Initiates ways of gathering data on the needs, interest, attitudes and beliefs of youth and young adults.

o Keeps parish faith community informed of youth ministry and parish activities and goals.

Parish Staff Member

o Attends weekly department meetings, and actively participates in staff planning.

o Ideally, is a registered member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church

o Supervises and coordinates the scheduling of youth events and activities, and works with Office Manager to ensure available facilities

o Communicates with staff/religion teacher about youth ministry activities and seeks input in planning youth ministry activities.

o Is a team player, and willing to do what is necessary for the good of the whole parish.

o Works in collaboration with other parish staff in scheduling, visioning, planning and implementing activities, events and processes that overlaps into other areas of other staff responsibilities.

Additional Job Functions

o Perform any other position related tasks as deemed necessary or assigned by the Pastor.

Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

· Ability to engage in ongoing professional formation; keep informed of trends in youth ministry, theology and methodology in ministry; participate in Diocesan workshops and seminars, and courses in methodology and theology where needed.

· Ability to maintain a good working relationship with the wider civic community at large.

· Knowledge of all diocesan guidelines and procedures.

· Proficiency in use of a variety of office equipment.

· Working knowledge of Microsoft Office computer programs including Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook.

· Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

· Willingness to work collaboratively with pastoral staff and lay leaders.

· Ability to work some nights and weekends.

· Must complete annual diocesan safe environment training.

· Must have valid AZ Driver’s License and own transportation and the ability to drive on company business in conformance with the Diocese of Phoenix Transportation Policy.

Minimum Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree in religious education or theology OR National Credential in Youth Ministry OR background in theology and educational methodologies with a willingness to move toward credential or degree.

· Must be an active Roman Catholic, faith-filled, spirit driven, self-motivated, imaginative, energetic, organized and reliable.
