We are seeking a reliable and safety-focused Underground Utility Locate Technician to join our team in the Greenville, South Carolina region. In this role, you will be responsible for locating and marking underground utility lines before excavation begins, helping prevent service interruptions, property damage, and safety hazards. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working independently, solving problems, and being outdoors.

Position Summary

As an Underground Utility Locate Technician, you will use mapping tools, utility records, and specialized locating equipment to identify and mark underground facilities such as electric, gas, telecom, and other utility lines. Your work plays a critical role in protecting essential infrastructure and ensuring the safety of crews and the public.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting pay begins at $18.00 per hour and up, depending on experience.

Employees are also eligible for automatic hourly pay increases:

• $0.50 increase after 60 days of employment
• $0.50 increase after 180 days of employment

Key Responsibilities

• Travel to job sites in response to routine locate requests, emergency tickets, and relocation work
• Use utility maps, work management tools, and specialized locating equipment to identify underground utilities
• Locate and mark underground facilities, including but not limited to electric, gas, telephone, and communication lines
• Clearly mark utility locations using paint, flags, and other approved methods
• Communicate relevant locate information to excavators, contractors, and other appropriate parties
• Respond to after-hours emergency call-outs as part of a rotating on-call schedule, when applicable
• Follow all company safety procedures and industry regulations while working in the field

Qualifications

• Utility locating experience preferred, but not required
• Utility construction experience preferred, but not required
• Outdoor work experience preferred, but not required
• Basic computer skills required
• Valid driver’s license in the state of employment required
• Positive attitude with strong dependability and willingness to learn
• Ability to work overtime as needed when job duties extend beyond the normal work schedule

Work Schedule

This is a full-time, Monday through Friday position, with the possibility of overtime and weekend work based on business needs and workload demands.

Physical Requirements

To perform this job successfully, employees must be able to:

• Drive 50 to 200+ miles daily within the assigned service area
• Stand and walk for extended periods, including 4–6 miles per day over uneven terrain
• Sit for extended periods while driving between locations
• Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
• Work outdoors in all weather conditions
