About This Position

Sterilization Services Technician: This 1.0 FTE/Full-time position is scheduled to work 8-HR variable shifts and is AFSCME represented, scheduled call required.

Compensation: Non-exempt, $22.71/HR - $31.38/HR

Job Summary:

The central sterile processing technician coordinates and collaborates the overall cleaning, decontamination, assembly and dispensing of surgical instruments, equipment and supplies needed for daily surgical procedures in surgery.

Job Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for control of all parts of the sterilization process:
    • decontamination
    • prep, pack, sterilize
    • documentation of sterilization; and
    • sterile storage including remediation of equipment failures and hazards.
  2. Provide integrity and sterility of products and services for the customers.
  3. Maintain consistency and continuous workflow between the OR, clinics, OB, ER and Central Service Sterile Processing while practicing excellent customer service.
  4. Operate and maintain decontamination equipment. Report systems failures timely and appropriately.
  5. Monitor surgery schedules daily, participates in daily checkout as necessary, identifies general, specific and potential needs for all cases. Brings concerns to lead, charge RN or Director as appropriate for resolution.
  6. Operate and maintain autoclaves, V-pro and Steris machines, maintaining accurate records of loads completed, items in loads, and maintenance procedures performed.
  7. Monitor surgery schedules daily, identifying general, specific and potential needs for all cases.
  8. Participates in continuing education.
  9. Other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent
  2. Graduation from an accredited training program in Sterile instrumentation reprocessing
  3. One year of Central Service or Sterile Processing experience preferred

Required Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations:

  1. Central Service Technician Certification required within 6 months of hire

  7. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  8. Ability to handle difficult situations involving peers, physicians, or others in a professional manner
