ERG is seeking a full-time ordnance technician to support of Department of Defense (DoD) clients working on-site at a federal facility site in Indian Head, Maryland. This role will work in a variety of explosive and chemical processing areas supporting the Decontamination and Demolition Branch in tasks associated with hazardous waste disposal. The Ordnance Technician will work closely with manufacturing personnel, engineers, contractors, and government stakeholders to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and within budget.
- Perform safe handling of energetics, energetic waste, hazardous materials, and decontamination chemicals. Safely locate, identify, demolish, inactivate, or decontaminate hazardous munitions, pyrotechnics, or ordnance according to applicable regulations and procedures
- Perform a variety of duties such as operation of energetic transport vehicles and inspection and handling of energetic material, and operation of equipment used for energetic decontamination and disassembly/demolition operations
- Use of equipment including, but not limited to, forklifts, trucks, material or weight handling equipment, and other lifting equipment for transportation of energetic and hazardous materials
- Understand and utilize hazardous waste practices for transport and storage per base and state/federal regulations
- Maintain chain-of-custody and inventory records of energetic and hazardous materials using automated information systems and/or paper logbooks
- Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) for production and handling of energetic and hazardous material
- Interact with technical clients to provide coordination and support on all decontamination and demolition activities
- Conduct Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs); identify hazards related to operations and implement appropriate mitigations to eliminate or minimize potentially hazardous effects to people, facilities, or the environment
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 5 years of experience in explosives decontamination operations
- Previous experience in ordnance or weapons systems or with inventory/warehouse a plus
- Must be able to obtain Department of Defense (DOD) Secret clearance
- Ability to pass AMMO-18 Certification class; previously obtained a plus
- Ability to pass other qualifying trainings regarding energetics safety, hazardous material handling, driver safety, etc
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- This position will require a pre-employment physical exam
- You may be required to participate in medical surveillance programs
- This position requires lifting objects weighing up to 50 and up to 100 pounds
- Work may be performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g., fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals)
- Ability to stand, walk, push, pull, squat, bend, and reach during shifts
- Must be able to access all areas within a site which could include heights of 120 feet, confined spaces, and climbing ladders or stairs
- Use carts, dollies, hand trucks, and other gear to move items around
- Ability to adhere to all safety procedures which include wearing approved safety gear and attire
- Ability to work with Microsoft Office products
- Ideal candidates will have direct experience with explosives safety planning, storage, handling, transportation, or disposal
