Overview

Department 440 Payload Launch Control Special Projects is responsible for the design development, test, and lifecycle support of special project payload systems on SEAWOLF and VIRGINIA Class submarines. The department designs systems that control movement of payloads in and out of the submarine. The department also manages subcontractor development that supports these payload handling systems. We work with our internal partners developing electrical design products, software, and integrated logistic support products. The highest attention to detail is necessary since these systems support mission requirements and must be safe and reliable. This team follows Electric Boat’s systems engineering processes.

This position is within the D440 SP Electronic Systems (components) group. The group is responsible for design and engineering of laboratory and production electronic hardware for the control of payload handling and launching systems. The group's work involves in-house development of rugged enclosures, embedded control systems, power distribution and power supply systems, cooling solutions, networking equipment, circuit design and analysis, prototyping and engineering development model fabrication and test. The group provides construction support as required. Some of the group's work involves subcontractor management, which consists of specification development, oversight of vendor efforts, and approving vendor drawings/deliverables. The group interfaces with NAVSEA, NUWC, shipyards, design, labs, trades, program office, other engineering disciplines, and multiple vendors.

Responsibilities may include

  • Developing and integrating electronics hardware, including procurement and manufacturing
  • Prototyping new hardware designs in a lab environment
  • Decomposing system-level requirements into hardware requirements
  • Collaborating with multi-discipline engineers
  • Defining and managing system interfaces
  • Integrating and complex systems and components
  • Validating system functionality through hardware and software development/integration efforts
  • Supporting system integration, testing, verification, and troubleshooting, both in functional and shipboard settings
  • Vendor and project management
  • Occasional travel

Qualifications

Required:

  • BS in Electrical, Computer, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering
  • 1-5 years of post-graduate engineering experience
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance

Preferred:

  • 2-5 years of experience relevant to the job description
  • Experience with Siemens NX/Teamcenter, IBM Rational DOORS, MBSE tools, Jira, Oracle ERP, and Microsoft Office tools including Project
  • Experience with submarine combat systems
  • Experience developing arrangements and drawings
    Design/test/build experience with a DOD contractor
  • Experience with the submarine construction process
