Wage: $28.00 – $30.00 per hour
Additional Wage Enhancement: Dependent on education, certifications, and experience
Reports To: Early Years Coordinator

Position Summary

Quatsino First Nation is seeking a caring, energetic, and dedicated Early Childhood Educator (ECE) – Infant/Toddler Specialist to join our Early Years team. This role is responsible for providing high-quality care and implementing developmentally appropriate, culturally grounded programming for infants and toddlers aged 0–36 months. This is a 2 year contract position with possibility of renewal depending on funding availability.

The successful candidate will create a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment that supports children’s intellectual, physical, emotional, and social growth while incorporating Quatsino First Nation culture, values, and land-based learning into daily experiences.

Key ResponsibilitiesProgram Planning & Delivery
  • Develop and implement play-based programming tailored to infants and toddlers.

  • Adapt schedules, routines, and activities to meet individual developmental needs.

  • Incorporate cultural teachings, language, and land-based learning opportunities.

  • Observe, assess, and document children’s progress and communicate with families.

Infant & Toddler Care
  • Provide responsive, nurturing care that supports healthy development.

  • Promote emotional regulation, confidence, and positive behaviour.

  • Support developmental milestones through age-appropriate learning experiences.

  • Work collaboratively with supervisors and support professionals as needed.

Health, Safety & Environment
  • Maintain a clean, safe, secure, and welcoming learning environment.

  • Support outdoor play, sensory learning, and exploration.

  • Ensure children’s dignity, wellness, and safety at all times.

Family & Team Collaboration
  • Build strong, respectful relationships with families.

  • Communicate regularly regarding child development and daily updates.

  • Work positively as part of a collaborative team environment.

  • Contribute to planning, meetings, and centre-wide initiatives.

Compliance & Professionalism
  • Ensure compliance with licensing regulations, policies, and procedures.

  • Maintain confidentiality and professional conduct at all times.

  • Participate in ongoing professional development and training.

QualificationsRequired
  • Certificate or Diploma in Early Childhood Education from a recognized institution.

  • Valid BC Early Childhood Educator License to Practice.

  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.

  • Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector clearance.

  • Strong understanding of child development, particularly ages 0–36 months.

Preferred
  • Infant/Toddler Post-Basic Certificate.

  • Experience working in Indigenous communities or culturally inclusive environments.

  • Knowledge of trauma-informed and holistic child care approaches.
