ABOUT NEW HORIZONS OF THE TREASURE COAST
New Horizons is the largest mental health and addiction recovery provider on the Treasure Coast (and beyond), serving 15,000 children and adults annually through inpatient crisis services, 24-hour help line and mobile response team, and outpatient programs conveniently located across Indian River, Martin, Okeechobee and St. Lucie counties. In addition, New Horizons assists 22,000 students in area schools, and we work closely with the courts, law enforcement, jails, and hospitals to help improve the health of individuals and the quality of life in our community.
RN's GENERAL SUMMARY
We are seeking Registered Nurses which will be responsible for the administration of direct and indirect individual care for the Program using the nursing process and nursing judgments based on scientific principles. The R.N. is guided by the Nurse Practitioner Act and established policies and procedures for the unit.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Observes and assesses client's course of treatment while in residence.
- Nursing assessments are performed in accordance with the agency’s protocol for conducting nursing assessments and its procedures relative to frequency and timeliness for the accordance of this activity.
- Assessment data is organized, accurate, and complete.
- Documents clients progress according to identified needs and goals of the treatment plan.
- Administers nursing care/treatment according to Agency protocol and procedures in accordance with accepted nursing care standards.
- Attend and participates in daily treatment team meetings as appropriate.
- Recognizes and reports any signs of aggressive behavior utilizing techniques of non-violent crisis intervention.
- All clients on special precautions are monitored according to unit protocol and procedure.
- utilizes individual seclusion and/or restraints in accordance with unit protocol and procedure, as a last resort.
- Receives and interprets change of shift report.
- Reviews each client, evaluating plan of care for those clients assigned.
- Administers physician ordered medications to clients and ensures and accepts responsibility for security of medication at all times
- Demonstrates the ability to administer medication and/or oversee self-administration in accordance with unit policy and procedure.
- Documents medication education.
- Accurately counts, administers and charts all medications given according to established procedure.
- Verifies original medication order by client name, medication, dosage, time and route of administration.
- Administers all PRN medications according to appropriate indications and verifies with original order.
- Administers all scheduled medications within 60 minutes of time ordered.
- Monitors and documents responses/reactions to medication in accordance with unit protocol and procedure.
- Documents all medication variances and reports same to Program Manager.
- Medication count is conducted at the beginning and end of each shift, as assigned.
- Medication area is secure and organized, neat, and orderly at all times.
- Ensures charts are assembled properly.
- Prepares written documentation for all services rendered.
- Written documentation for services rendered is performed in accordance with the Agency's standards for service documentation in the client's medical record.
- Accurately documents observations, procedures and care provided during the client's course of treatment.
- Documents individual progress according to identified needs and goals of the treatment plan.
New Horizons will need you to have the following qualifications:
- Active State of Florida Registered Nursing License
- Experience working with vulnerable populations
- Knowledge in mental health and substance use is a plus
