Job SummaryAICDC is seeking an American Indian Elder Advocate to support our elder residents at Bii Di Gain Dash Anwebi Elder Housing. This role will report directly to the COO and will be an important member of the Bii Di Gain community. This is an exciting opportunity for an energetic, driven and detail-oriented individual. The advocate will serve as a liaison between elders and various service providers, ensuring their voices are heard and their well-being prioritized.
Responsibilities
- Act as the liaison between elders and Property Management.Attend community events to help connect American Indian elders and other elders in our community with Property Management to ensure understanding of the housing application/waitlist process.Assist applicants with applications for housing and connect them with Property Management.Maintain waiting list for American Indian elders and connect with Property Management to make sure waiting list is up to date.Establish and maintain a high level of communication via newsletters, email, calls, texts and person to person contact to Bii Di Gain elders.Maintain a database of Bii Di Gain elders served and activities provided.Coordinate monthly elder residents group meetings to gather information about concerns or needs for the community.Identify events elders may be interested in and create a monthly calendar newsletter of the identified social activities, meals and events for the elders in the community.Collaborate with other agencies that provide services to elders to develop collaborative support services.Monitor and maintain activity budget monthly.Provide help with the food shelf and any food distribution to elders.In coordination with COO complete required reports for federal, state, foundations, and local governmental agencies for the benefit of residents.Maintain effective professional relationships with residents, customers, other employees, supervisory personnel, and the public.Other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of social and economic problems related to housing needs among lower income elders living on fixed incomes.Familiarity with the American Indian Community and the needs of low and moderate-income elders.Knowledge of community resources and services that serve the elderly.Proficient in computer programs and databases.Effective communication skills.
Required Qualifications
- Experience working with/in American Indian community.High School education/GED - Some college preferred.Valid State of Minnesota Driver's License and insurance.
Regular part time, non-exempt, hourly
Fixed at 20 hours per week
Salary Range: $22-25 per hour
