Job Description
MDVIP: Transforming Primary Care, One Patient at a Time
MDVIP is a national leader in personalized healthcare, empowering over 425,000 members to achieve their health and wellness goals through a network of more than 1,400 concierge primary care physicians. Our program emphasizes preventive medicine, offering comprehensive screenings, advanced diagnostics, and individualized wellness plans. Recognized as a Great Place to Work® since 2018, MDVIP is committed to excellence in patient care and employee satisfaction.
Position Summary
MDVIP’s payments platform manages large-scale funds flow between members and physicians and serves as the system of record for contracts, pricing, and billing.
We are rebuilding the payments integration layer from the ground up. The architecture is anchored on clear, repeatable Azure cloud-native patterns including being API-first and event-driven. Claude Code is at the center of how we develop: agentic, AI-first engineering where AI tools are the workflow, not just enhanced auto-complete.
We’re looking for a lead engineer who will take ownership of the rebuild and partner across multiple team members to raise the bar on AI-driven development. You’ll design the target-state architecture, build production services, bridge into legacy systems during the transition, and shape how payments software gets built at MDVIP.
Key Responsibilities
Build the New Payments Platform
- Design and implement cloud-native payment services on Azure replacing time-based batch syncs with event-driven, real-time pipelines that process member and physician payments with full auditability.
- Define infrastructure as code patterns, CI/CD pipelines, observability, and testing strategies that establish high standards and patterns applicable across all engineering teams.
- Build and ship the payments roadmap, continuing our evolution to faster, theme-based release cycles: payments and enrollments, EHR integrations, membership lifecycle, and beyond.
- Lead research and architecture of future payment system expansion, including real time payment transaction use cases.
Bridge Legacy and Modern Systems
- Build modern customizations and integrations between core systems surgically and strategically, keeping the business running while the transition is in flight, managing the balance of impact, efficiency, and risk appropriately.
- Support and maintain critical legacy touchpoints where needed, with an eye toward replacing them systematically.
Drive AI-First Engineering Culture
- Set the patterns for how software is designed, reviewed, and shipped, raising the bar across the team and the wider organization.
- Champion agentic development practices: Claude Code as the primary development interface, AI-driven code generation, automated testing, and continuous deployment.
- Mentor and uplevel team members on AI-first workflows, establishing the technical foundation and development patterns others will build on.
- Partner with Technical and Business Product Owners to scope solutions, pressure-test ideas, and sequence delivery for maximum business impact.
Who You Are
- A builder first. You’d rather write the system than draw the diagram (unless the diagram is a critical input of your /plan). You default to code, not meetings.
- An engineer who thinks in cloud-native patterns: event-driven architectures, managed services, containers, APIs.
- Pragmatic over perfectionist. You optimize for business impact and shipping, not theoretical elegance.
- The kind of person who’s already using AI tools before anyone on the team has heard of them. The kind of person who knows when to trust the output and when not to, and how to trust but verify.
- Self-directed and accountable. You manage your own work, follow through without micromanagement, and raise blockers early.
- A strong collaborator who makes the people around them better through clear communication, good patterns, and generous knowledge sharing.
Minimum Qualifications
- BS in Computer Science or related field; 8+ years shipping software at a product or SaaS company.
- Deep cloud-native experience on Azure (or equivalent depth with commitment to Azure).
- Infrastructure as code (Terraform, Bicep, Pulumi), CI/CD, and modern build/deploy patterns.
- Event-driven architectures, message queues, and real-time data pipelines in production.
- Led a meaningful platform rebuild or migration—not just feature work on an existing system.
- Polyglot—deeply skilled in at least one language, productive across several.
- Active, daily use of AI coding tools (Claude Code, Copilot, or similar) as a force multiplier.
