Engineer at Akicita Federal, LLC – Long Beach, California

Location: Long Beach Veterans Affairs Healthcare System, Long Beach, CA

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Development and Planning: Determines requirements, prepares designs, specifications, and estimates. Performs surveys and investigations to establish baseline data necessary to initiate design. Evaluates baseline data and incorporates salient factors into design considerations. Identifies the most economical and efficient procedures for project design while performing complex technical calculations. Applies versatile and innovative approaches to solve problems where conflicts exist between management requirements and engineering principles.
• Professional Engineering/Architectural Advice: Provides professional advice to peers, subordinates, and managers. Reviews plans, specifications, and design analyses submitted by subordinate engineers, and directs necessary changes. Provides professional oversite and/or project management of construction or maintenance efforts.
• Construction, Maintenance & Project Administration Work: Performs scheduling, layout of operations, and surveillance of materials, methods, and equipment used in construction. Prepares detailed cost estimates, technical reports, status reports, and schedules. Consults with contractor personnel to resolve difficult unforeseen problems during construction and incorporates solutions into contract performance documents. Reviews shop drawings, samples, and materials certifications submitted by contractors.
• Performs In-House Design and AE Design Management: Develops in-house designs compliant with building codes and safety standards. Establishes design criteria for AE (Architectural/Engineering) firms and prepares construct scopes of work. Oversees, reviews, approves, or rejects AE design deliverables and establishes VA design and construction standards.
• Environment of Care & Security: Implements and monitors OSHA goals for Life Safety Management, health, and environmental procedures. Monitors hazardous materials, fire protection, and Emergency Preparedness plans. Protects printed and electronic files containing sensitive data in accordance with the Privacy Act of 1974 and VHA policy.
• Customer Service & Infection Control: Communicates courteously with veterans, their representatives, visitors, and VA staff. Demonstrates infection control practices for disease prevention, including hand washing and isolation procedures.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Minimum 5 years of General Engineer experience.
• Familiarity with patient Centered Care Culture in healthcare.
• Must hold a bachelor's degree in engineering and/or construction management.
