Deli-Retail Associate at Orcas Island Market – Eastsound, Washington

Position Summary:

The Deli–Retail Associate is responsible for stocking, maintaining, and merchandising specialty breads, dessert items, and the store’s specialty cheese selection. This position ensures that products in the deli/bakery retail area and cheese wheel are well-stocked, rotated for freshness, and presented in attractive displays that encourage sales. The associate provides excellent customer service and works closely with the Deli–Retail Lead to maintain quality, organization, and cleanliness in all retail areas of the department.

Key Responsibilities:

Breakdown incoming boards/shipment pallets.

Stock and maintain specialty breads, desserts, and bakery retail items.

Stock, organize, and maintain the specialty cheese wheel and related displays.

Rotate products regularly to ensure freshness and proper product dating.

Create and maintain appealing product displays that support merchandising and promotional goals.

Monitor inventory levels and notify the Deli–Retail Lead of low stock or ordering needs.

Maintain clean, organized, and well-presented retail areas at all times.

Assist customers with locating products and answering basic questions about specialty cheeses, breads, and desserts.

Follow all food safety, sanitation, and company policies.

Assist with product labeling and pricing as directed.

Support other deli or bakery retail tasks as needed to ensure smooth department operations.

Qualifications:

Strong attention to detail and organization.

Ability to work independently while supporting team goals.

Customer service oriented with a friendly and helpful attitude.

Ability to learn basic product knowledge related to specialty cheeses, breads, and desserts.

Prior grocery, deli, bakery, or retail experience preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.

Ability to bend, reach, and lift products regularly.

Ability to lift and move items up to 40 lbs.

Ability to work in refrigerated areas when stocking cheese or specialty products.

Work Environment:

Fast-paced grocery store environment.

Frequent interaction with customers and team members.

May include early morning, evening, weekend, and holiday shifts.
