About This Position
EEC Solutions is looking for a General Engineer to support a possible upcoming contract at VA Long Beach Healthcare System, Long Beach, CA.
Note: We are seeking resumes for a proposal opportunity. This position is contingent upon contract award. Candidates currently living in a HubZone designated area are encouraged to apply. Only the candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be considered.
Position Description:
The General Engineer provides professional engineering services for development, planning, design, construction oversight, and environment of care management at VALBHS. This role applies broad engineering knowledge to complex projects, provides professional advice to management, oversees construction activities, performs in-house design, and manages AE design deliverables in compliance with VA regulations and federal standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Determine project requirements; perform reconnaissance, design, specifications, and estimates for complex engineering projects.
• Provide professional engineering advice to peers, subordinates, and managers; review plans and specifications from subordinate engineers.
• Perform scheduling, layout, and inspection/surveillance of materials, methods, and equipment used in construction.
• Prepare detailed cost estimates, correspondence, technical reports, fact sheets, status reports, and schedules.
• Develop in-house designs with drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and construction documents fully compliant with building codes and safety standards.
• Establish design criteria for AE firms; prepare AE scope of work; oversee and approve/reject AE design deliverables.
• Implement and monitor OSHA goals for Life Safety Management, hazardous materials, fire protection, emergency preparedness, and environmental compliance.
• Consult with contractor personnel to resolve complex unforeseen problems during construction; prepare change order documents.
• Protect printed and electronic files per Privacy Act of 1974 and applicable VA/VHA policies.
• Consistently treat customers (Veterans, representatives, visitors, and VA staff) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering required (SP6 standard).
- Minimum 7 years of general engineering experience; healthcare design experience strongly preferred (SP6 standard).
- Candidates must provide copy of engineering degree and resume per SP6 standard. - Candidates must demonstrate 7+ years of engineering experience. PE certification documentation if applicable.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of healthcare design, fire codes, building codes, barrier free design. Microsoft Office Suite required. Microsoft Project and Revit beneficial. VISTA access beneficial.
- Professional Engineer (PE) certification preferred.
