Summary

Prepares microscopic slides from cytologic specimens; stains and mounts slides; studies cells from various body sites to detect evidence of cancer and other pathological conditions.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree in a related science.
2. Completion of an approved cytology training program.
3. American Society for Clinical Pathology registration CT (ASCP). New graduates or those completing Cytotechnologist programs must sit for the required exam within 6 months of hire and must pass the exam and become registered within 12 months of hire.
4. Analytical ability and physical dexterity is required for microscopic slide production and screening of cytology specimens; troubleshooting ability to correct procedural difficulties.
