Job Summary:
This position will be responsible for operating and maintaining the hospital’s clinical system applications to include supporting pharmacy, nursing, lab, medical staff, coders and billers. Primary responsibility is to assure the efficient operation of assigned applications by the knowledge of general computer concepts, gained knowledge of assigned applications, application resources and tools through all aspects of usage of the computer system. Clinical informatics also assures smooth integration of new applications/hardware with current software applications, minimizing application unavailability from downtimes and meeting the users’ workflow and educational needs.
Job Responsibilities and Duties:
- Acts as a liaison with clinical and medical staff to assess their needs and provide information and guidance as needed.
- Works closely with hospital & vendor project managers as a liaison when problems arise, or enhancements are needed.
- Acts as an expert in patient safety and use of technology to optimize patient care and achieve the best clinical outcomes.
- Departmental EHR (Electronic Health Records) designer/table administrator backup
- Support users with clinical system applications and hardware problems escalated from helpdesk within 2 hours.
- Trouble ticket or service request management for EHR applications and prioritizes problem requests.
- Analyze problems and provides appropriate recommendations and solutions related to the computer system.
- Respond to clinical system applications problems promptly.
- Develops training materials. Schedules and conducts appropriate user training on an ongoing basis and during new system implementations as well as during orientation.
- Participates in provider education and maintains all clinical electronic systems.
- Participates in assisting in building and training/supporting provider/clinical documentation along with the clinical educator.
- Maintains competency in order entry and eMAR processes as well as barcode and dispensing cabinet technology.
- Assist in development and communication of strategy to improve the quality and functionality of patient care through electronic health records to include patient engagement and care coordination.
- Responsible for the critical analysis of issues evolving as a result of implementation of process redesign and/or clinical information system in order to maintain quality of service and efficient use of resources.
- Provides go-live support for applications.
- Process workflow: assessments, gap analysis, input from front line users, incorporate suggestions, redesign review and evaluations. Collaborates with departments to optimize existing or new functionality to improve clinical workflow, improve utilizations and remove workarounds.
- Assists with developing and implementing test plans.
- Supports testing and development efforts, manages and sets up test environments.
- Tests updates providing support on EHR applications as well as assists in other departments application testing.
- Ensures optimal staff involvement in the development and implementation of the clinical components of the information system related to improved and effective delivery of quality patient care.
- Performs clinical applications ad hoc queries and report on status and statistics for users to assist in making informed decisions based on data found.
- Monitors and reports on user average usage activities and performance.
- Directs data mining, data analysis, and information analysis for evidence based nursing practice for outcomes analysis for clinical nursing practices.
- CMS regulatory reporting (ie Promoting Interoperability).
- Demonstrates flexibility in adjusting to variable workload and job duties
- Abides by the strict confidentiality policy of the hospital as well as HIPAA standards.
- Treats patients, coworkers, board members, and visitors with respect and dignity at all times
- Shows sincere commitment and adherence to all Corporate Compliance issues.
Maintains Current Knowledge of:
- Trends and issues in healthcare, medical/pharmacy/nursing practice, health care informatics, and government standards
- Organizational policies and procedures related to clinical practice and the legal implications of the clinical information system
- Clinical applications currently in use and their relationship to other integrated systems
- Current technological advances for both hardware and software.
- Cross-training on other applications to support colleagues in their absence and assist with implementation, integration.
- Collaboratively developments, implementation and maintenance of policies and procedures related to assigned applications.
- Appropriate on-going application education provided by vendors as the need indicates.
- Hospital mission and objectives.
Education/Licensure:
- Required: Professional education as required for clinical licensure; one to two years related experience and or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. One to two years related experience and or training or equivalent combination of education and experience in Information Technology.
- Preferred: Clinical Background preferred, examples are not limited to RN, Nurse Practitioner, Pharmacist, and Physician Assistant.
- Minimum clinical licensure background desired Registered Nurse; other medical background considered
