About This Position
Position Summary
The Dock Fuel Attendant is responsible for providing excellent customer service, maintaining professional relationships with fuel dock vendors, and contributing to the smooth and efficient operations of the marina. This role involves handling daily fuel operations, managing inventory, and ensuring all systems are functioning properly to facilitate a safe and seamless fueling experience for marina customers. The Dock Fuel Attendant plays an integral role in upholding the marina's reputation for high-quality service and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
Customer Service & Operational Support:
Greet marina guests and boaters with a friendly and professional demeanor, ensuring a positive customer experience.
Provide assistance with fueling boats, offering support as needed while ensuring safety protocols are followed.
Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked fuel dock area, ensuring the highest standards of safety, cleanliness, and order.
Address customer inquiries or concerns in a professional and prompt manner, escalating to management when necessary.
Fuel Management:
Ensure fuel switches are turned ON at the beginning of each shift and OFF at the end of the shift to maintain accurate fuel operations.
Monitor fuel tank levels throughout the day, taking action if any discrepancies or potential issues arise.
Handle fueling transactions efficiently and safely, ensuring correct amounts and charges are applied to customer accounts.
Inventory Control:
Conduct a detailed inventory count at the start and end of each shift, documenting the quantities of fuel available to ensure accurate records.
Print and review inventory reports at the beginning of the shift, prior to fueling boats, and at the end of the shift to track fuel usage and ensure accountability.
Keep a close eye on fuel levels throughout the day and coordinate with management to replenish fuel supplies as needed.
Cash Handling & Financial Accountability:
Count and verify the $400 cash float at the beginning of each shift before fueling boats to ensure accuracy.
Ensure all cash transactions are handled securely and documented properly, reconciling any discrepancies before the end of each shift.
Maintain a detailed log of all cash transactions, including fuel sales, tips, and other revenue.
Pricing & Signage Management:
Adjust fuel prices at the pump according to the daily fuel price email, ensuring accurate and up-to-date pricing is displayed for customers.
Turn the OPEN sign on at the start of each shift to signal the availability of fuel services and turn it off at the end of the shift to signal the close of operations.
Equipment and Facility Checks:
Regularly inspect fueling equipment, hoses, and pumps for any signs of wear or malfunction, reporting issues immediately to the maintenance team.
Check and maintain phones and communication devices to ensure they are in working order and available for use in case of emergencies or customer inquiries.
Safety Compliance:
Adhere to all marina and regulatory safety standards and guidelines, including proper fueling procedures, spill prevention, and emergency response protocols.
Complete regular safety checks on fueling equipment and dock area as directed, ensuring safety hazards are addressed promptly.
Required Qualifications:
Prior experience in a customer service, retail, or marina environment is preferred.
Strong communication skills and a customer-first mindset.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Basic math and cash-handling skills.
Knowledge of fueling procedures, safety standards, and emergency response protocols is an asset.
Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
