DEPUTY SHERIFF/SECURITY

Applications are now being accepted for a pre-employment testing list. This posting is being used to create a list of qualified and available candidates for a Deputy Sheriff-Security position.

Salary Grade: 5

Starting Rate: $18.98/hour

Shift Available: Full - Time (Non-Exempt) (40HRS)

Summary of Job Functions:
• Maintains security screening operations at public entrances via visual checks, walk-through metal detector, and hand-held metal detector devices.
• Performs a daily physical check of the interior and exterior of buildings.
• Responds to disturbances/security problems in and on county property.
• Interacts effectively with county employees and users of county facilities.
• Utilizes various office equipment and technology to maintain records and files.
• Resolves volatile situations in a professional manner.
• In the absence of volunteers, assists visitors with building information and directions.
• Assists in maintaining law and order.
• Performs other deputized duties as required during working hours.
• Transports prisoners and intellectually disabled patients to/from courts, mental hospitals, and various facilities throughout the state.
• Provides security for judges, courtroom, and courthouse offices.
• Performs routine law enforcement duties and makes arrests.
• Performs public service presentations, assists with mock trials, booths at fairs, etc.
• Attends meetings, seminars, and in-service training as required.
• Performs other job-related duties as required.
• Performs security and provides a law enforcement presence at the University Park Airport.
• Assists Airport Authority and TSA personnel.
• Assists PSUPD as requested or necessary.
• Provides incident reports as required for any incidents that may occur on duty.
• Performs work in accordance with Airport Authority and TSA regulations.

**Some of these duties are performed as needed to cover staffing shortages, deputies on vacation or deputies at training. Deputy Sheriff Security will fill other essential positions on a as needed basis.

Minimum Training and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent, plus some knowledge of law enforcement principles and methods helpful; degree preferred. Must be certified as a Deputy Sheriff for the State of PA (Act 2), be Act 120 certified (MPOETC), or be a former Pennsylvania State Police Trooper or former Act 120 certified Police Officer. If a former Pennsylvania State Police Trooper or Act 120 certified Police Officer, active status/certification must have been within the last three (3) years from county hire date. Also, must be able to complete and pass a physical fitness test administered by the Sheriff’s department before employment. Prior law enforcement experience/training preferred. Must possess a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license and a willingness to travel as needed.
