Overview

The Rheumatologist provides comprehensive, evidence-based care for patients with autoimmune, inflammatory, and musculoskeletal diseases across Sarasota Arthritis Center’s multi-location private practice. This role is responsible for diagnosing and managing complex rheumatologic conditions, prescribing and monitoring advanced therapeutics (including biologics and infusion therapies), and collaborating closely with SAC’s Infusion Suite, Ancillary Programs, Research Department, and multidisciplinary clinical teams.

SAC operates a physician-led, high-efficiency outpatient model with in-house infusion services, laboratory capabilities, and clinical research opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive outpatient rheumatology care, including diagnosis, treatment planning, and longitudinal disease management
  • Evaluate and manage complex autoimmune and inflammatory conditions (e.g., rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, lupus, vasculitis, spondyloarthropathies)
  • Prescribe, monitor, and manage DMARDs, biologics, and infusion therapies in collaboration with SAC’s Infusion team
  • Supervise and collaborate with Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), including chart review and clinical oversight as applicable
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation within the electronic medical record
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and adherence to clinical protocols and evidence-based guidelines
  • Collaborate with Patient Navigators and Prior Authorization team to ensure efficient therapy access and reduced turnaround time to treatment
  • Support infusion safety and respond to infusion-related reactions or clinical incidents as needed
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, Medicare/Medicaid regulations, and Florida-specific healthcare requirements
  • Participate in clinical research opportunities, if desired
  • Contribute to SAC’s culture of teamwork, accountability, and patient-centered care

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited institution
  • Board Certified in Rheumatology
  • Active and unrestricted Florida medical license (or eligible for licensure)
  • Active DEA registration
  • Experience with biologics and infusion therapy management preferred
  • Strong clinical judgment and commitment to evidence-based practice
  • Excellent communication and team collaboration skills
  • Commitment to patient safety, compliance, and high-quality care
