About This Position

The Superintendent of Logistics, Safety & Training will direct and oversee all safety, training, work throughput, and project activities in PSM. The Superintendent of Logistics, Safety & Training will be responsible for developing criteria for creating, implementing, and evaluating PSM preventative and corrective maintenance programs and activities, developing and auditing safety policies/procedures, preparing and implementing Department training, and coordinating with other Authority departments with regards to the design of capital construction projects.


  • Develop, implement, and manage preventive and corrective maintenance programs, safety programs including developing and tracking of key performance indicators.
  • Responsible for all aspects of personnel management including recruitment, promotions, directing performance, discipline, evaluation, and training activities
  • Maintain operational knowledge of construction methods, and safety, DLS, OSHA, ANSI, and other applicable standards, regulations, laws, and policies and procedures.
  • Lead and direct the development of Local Safety Committees within E&M.
  • Collaborate with Managers of Safety and Training to identify training needs and develop department training programs.
  • Create position descriptions and justifications
  • Institute safety and training programs for area personnel
  • Ensure that all inventory levels, equipment, and facilities under their control are protected in a safe operating condition
  • Prepare, administer, monitor and/or audit the annual division budget
  • Respond to each inquiry, whether from a customer, vendor, or co-worker in a courteous and professional manner consistent with the Authority’s “Driven by Customer Service” quality standard
  • Drive a company or personal vehicle to visit work sites and to assist at emergencies and/or events as needed.
  • Either directly or through subordinates respond to emergencies on a twenty-four (24) hour, seven (7) day per week basis
  • Establish an effective interface between management and employees and, when necessary, with union representatives
  • Uphold the rights and interests of the Authority while building and maintaining an effective relationship with employees
  • Assist in the management of a workforce by ensuring the fair and consistent application and strict adherence to the rules, regulations, collective bargaining agreements (if applicable) and policies of the Authority including the EEO, Anti-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment and Anti-Retaliation policies
  • Perform all other duties and projects that may be assigned

  • Available to work all shifts and locations as assigned or directed
  • Available to work as per assignment by the MBTA twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week as directed by supervisory staff for severe weather conditions, emergencies or any other circumstances that may potentially impact service or the safety of service
  • Have the ability to work any and all shifts and/or locations assigned or directed.

Supervision

  • Technical and professional staff of fifteen to twenty (15-20) employees

  • A high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) from an accredited institution
  • Twelve (12) years of experience in power or electrical maintenance environment
  • Three (3) year experience in a supervisory capacity
  • General knowledge of OSHA standards/requirements.
  • Experience developing and delivering technical training programs.
  • Experience with developing policies, procedures and standard operating procedures.
  • Experience with work management, planning and scheduling.
  • Effective organizational, analytical, confidentiality, multi-tasking, time management and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to use Word, Excel, Database, PeopleSoft, or Main Frame applications.
  • Be able to handle sensitive and confidential information in an appropriate manner.
  • Have excellent customer service, conflict resolution, writing and speaking skills.
  • Have a valid driver’s license in accordance with MBTA policy.
  • Have the ability to work any and all shifts and/or locations as assigned or directed.
  • Be available to work twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week.
  • Have the ability to supervise and work effectively with a diverse workforce.
