Job Description

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic college student to join our Executive Department as an intern. This internship is unpaid but offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in public relations, social media management, and community engagement within a municipal setting.

Essential Functions:
All duties performed will be under the supervision and guidance of the Assistant to the City Administrator. Duties may include but are not limited to:
- Assist with the City’s social media outreach:
- Create fun and engaging social media campaigns to educate the public on programs, events, and projects happening in Bonney Lake.
- Research what other cities are doing well on social media and provide suggestions on new ways Bonney Lake can engage with the community.
- Assist in creating and scheduling social media content across various platforms.
- Assist with website updates.
- Take photos and videos for use in various city communications.
- Support the development and distribution of newsletters, press releases, and other communication materials.
- Participate in community outreach events and help with event planning and coordination.
- Perform administrative tasks as needed, such as data entry and filing.
- Maintain regular, reliable, and punctual attendance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
- Enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program with a major in Communication(s) or similar field.
- 18 years of age by the start date of June 1, 2025.
- Ability to work some evenings and weekends during special events.
- Driver’s license.
- Successful passing of a required background check.
Preferred:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with attention to detail, especially in creating public-facing correspondence.
- Experience and interest in social media and graphic design.
- Able to manage multiple tasks, with attention to detail.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and design software programs
Physical Demands
- Moving throughout City facilities and buildings.
- Travel to off-site locations and move throughout the community as needed.
- Drive and perform field work.
- Operate a computer and other office equipment.
- Communicate with City employees and residents.
- Bend, lift, and hold objects on occasion.
Work Environment
- Work will be performed in both the office and outside in the field with exposure to all weather conditions.
- Tasks will include standing, sitting, or walking for long periods of time and navigating uneven and/or steep terrain.
- Exposure to high voltage wires, hazardous materials, heights, and noise from equipment.
- Noise level out in the field is moderately loud.
- Noise level in the office is moderately quiet.
- Work evening and/or weekend hours as needed.
- Night meetings may be required.
