About This Position

Job Summary: The Senior Application Architect serves as a subject matter expert and strategic solution leader in the design, implementation, and optimization of applications that support coding, document management, EMPI, clinical charting, medical records, release of information, transcription, and other HIM functions. This role bridges clinical, operational, and technical domains by ensuring that HIM applications are aligned with WMC’s organizational goals,industry standards, compliance requirements, and enterprise architecture strategies. The Senior Application Architect provides architectural guidance, oversees system integrations, drives application roadmaps, and partnerswith both IT and HIM leadership to deliver reliable, efficient, and compliant solutions across the enterprise.

Responsibilities:

  • Define and maintain the application strategy for HIM systems (Oracle Health/Cerner HIM modules, document management, coding, transcription, ROI)
  • Oversee upgrades, enhancements, and new module implementations.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, architectural diagrams, and system workflows.
  • Ensure HIM systems support compliance with HIPAA, Joint Commission, CMS, and other regulatory bodies.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between IT and the HIM department, translating operational needs into technical requirements.
  • Partner with HIM leadership to optimize workflows for medical record integrity, coding, release of information, and chart completion.
  • Troubleshoot complex system issues, coordinate vendor escalations, and ensure root cause analysis is completed.
  • Optimize system performance, data quality, and usability for HIM end-users.

Qualifications:

Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in Information Technology in a healthcare setting, required
  • Hands-on experience supporting Health Information Management systems (Cerner Millennium AccessHIM modules, Ellkay, 3M, Forms on Demand, etc), required
  • Strong background in system integration, interoperability standards, and healthcare compliance, required

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Healthcare Informatics, or related field, required
  • Master’s degree, preferred

Licenses / Certifications: N/A

Other:

  • Deep understanding of HIPAA, data governance, and records management requirements.
  • Experience in healthcare workfloes, particularly within HIM
  • Proven ability to design, document, and communicate complex technical solutions.
