About This Position
Role Purpose Statement:
NHS, a nonprofit that brings residents, businesses, and government together to strengthen neighborhoods, enhance quality of life for low- to moderate-income families, and revitalize communities. Reporting to the CFO, the Controller is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the accounting department, successful fiscal management and financial planning of the organization through three distinct 501(c)(3) entities.
Duties
* Direct and oversee the day-to-day operations of the accounting department, including fiscal and resource management.
- Working in conjunction with the CFO, design and/or refine existing processes to reduce redundancy and maximize efficiency and effectiveness in strengthening internal controls and processes.
- Oversee the Finance Department and supervise personnel, including general ledger, payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
• Serves as a member of the Management Team of the organization. Provides counsel to managers, the
President, and the Board of Directors on financial strategy, including planning, budgeting,
controllership, and capital development.
• Oversees preparation of fiscal and financial reports and interprets the results.
• Works with Chief Lending Officer and others to oversee the loan servicing function.
• Works with Chief Administrative Officer and others to manage financial investor reporting and
contractual obligations.
• Ensures coordination among organizational goals, long-range financial planning, and daily
financial functioning.
• Evaluates financial trends, monitors external developments, assesses internal opportunities, and
makes strategic recommendations to the President that position the organization to compete
effectively for capital, manage financial resources, manage risk, and adopt sound financial
policies and procedures.

· Recommends and coordinates long-range financial planning and financial management, including preparation of annual . . Budget. Reviews budget monthly and recommends necessary adjustments.
· Oversees annual audit process for three separate corporations (NHS, NHS NLS, and NHS NRC).
· Works with Management Team to develop and maintain relationships with the financial service and investment community.
Requirements Roles, Qualifications
(e.g., education, certifications, experience, skills)
. Experience in non-profits is required.
· Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business required.
· Experience in affordable housing, or mortgage or real estate banking lending required.
· Minimum of ten years of increasing responsibility in accounting, budgeting, and financial planning.
Physical Requirements Necessary to Perform Job
· Lift up to 20 pounds
· Sit at desk or in a meeting for extended periods of up to three or four hours at a time
· Speak and hear to give and receive detailed information through verbal communication in person, using the telephone, and/or at
community meetings.
· Able to drive to underdeveloped sites and construction sites
· Stand or walk for the majority of a work day
