Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Industrial Painter to perform end-to-end finishing of urethane castings, 3D-printed parts, prototypes, and production components. This is a hands-on production position responsible for the complete finishing process, from initial inspection and surface preparation through priming, painting, clear coating, polishing, touch-up, and final inspection.
Experienced automotive body-shop painters and refinish technicians are especially well suited for this position.
Responsibilities
- Inspect incoming cast and printed parts for surface defects and finishing requirements.
- Perform sanding, filling, glazing, feathering, and other surface-correction work.
- Clean, degrease, mask, and prepare parts for coating.
- Select and apply appropriate primers, sealers, adhesion promoters, basecoats, topcoats, and clearcoats.
- Mix paints, coatings, reducers, and hardeners according to manufacturer requirements.
- Operate HVLP spray equipment and paint-booth systems.
- Produce consistent color, gloss, texture, coverage, and overall appearance.
- Perform color matching, blending, touch-up, defect correction, wet sanding, buffing, and polishing.
- Adjust preparation and coating methods for urethane castings, plastics, nylon, resins, and other printed materials.
- Complete work according to drawings, work instructions, finish specifications, and production schedules.
- Inspect completed parts and correct runs, dry spray, orange peel, fisheyes, contamination, pinholes, and other finish defects.
- Clean and maintain spray guns, paint equipment, tools, and booth areas.
- Track materials and complete required production and quality documentation.
- Follow all PPE, respirator, chemical-handling, ventilation, and hazardous-material requirements.
Required Qualifications
- At least three years of professional automotive refinishing, collision painting, industrial painting, aerospace painting, or comparable production experience.
- Demonstrated ability to independently complete the full preparation and painting process.
- Experience with HVLP spray guns, mixing systems, primers, basecoats, clearcoats, and related refinishing materials.
- Strong sanding, masking, filling, paint-preparation, and defect-correction skills.
- Ability to produce repeatable, high-quality cosmetic finishes in a production environment.
- Ability to interpret work instructions, drawings, color requirements, and finish standards.
- Strong attention to detail and personal ownership of finished-part quality.
- Ability to safely wear a respirator and work regularly inside a controlled paint-booth environment.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and safely lift and position parts weighing up to 50 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience painting plastic, composite, resin, nylon, or urethane components.
- Experience with prototype, aerospace, defense, automotive, or high-mix manufacturing.
- Experience measuring and controlling coating thickness.
- I-CAR, ASE refinishing, or manufacturer paint-system training.
- Experience performing minor cosmetic repair and bodywork before painting.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a strong automotive or industrial painter who does not require separate personnel for preparation, spraying, and final correction. This person can receive an unfinished part, determine the required preparation, produce the specified finish, correct defects, and deliver a completed part ready for inspection and shipment.
