Outside Sales Representative (Industrial & Commercial)

- $75,000-85,000 - plus commissions
Position Summary
Central Plumbing is seeking an experienced Outside Sales Representative to drive growth within our industrial and commercial service markets throughout the Baton Rouge region. This role is responsible for developing new business opportunities, strengthening relationships with existing customers, and generating revenue through the sale of plumbing services, maintenance agreements, repairs, and project work.
The ideal candidate will possess a proven industrial sales background, experience working within compliance-driven environments, and the ability to build long-term customer relationships. This position will report directly to the Sales Estimator and receive training on Central Plumbing's customer base, service offerings, and sales processes.
This position plays an important role in supporting operational growth, expanding market share, and contributing to company goals through proactive business development, customer engagement, and strategic account management.
Key Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain relationships with industrial, commercial, municipal, and institutional customers.
- Prospect and secure new business opportunities within manufacturing facilities, plants, warehouses, commercial properties, healthcare facilities, schools, and other target markets.
- Conduct regular customer visits, site walk-throughs, and facility assessments.
- Identify plumbing service, repair, maintenance, and project opportunities within customer facilities.
- Collaborate with the Sales Estimator and Operations team to develop proposals, estimates, and scopes of work.
- Follow up on proposals, bids, and customer inquiries to maximize sales conversion.
- Maintain a consistent schedule of customer visits and business development activities.
- Track sales opportunities, pipeline activity, and customer interactions.
- Attend customer meetings, contractor orientations, safety meetings, and networking events.
- Represent Central Plumbing professionally while promoting company capabilities and service offerings.
Operational / Administrative Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate customer records, sales activities, and pipeline updates within company systems.
- Ensure all required documentation is completed for customer onboarding and site access.
- Support forecasting and reporting activities as requested by leadership.
- Stay informed on customer needs, market conditions, and competitive activity.
Customer / Team Support Responsibilities
- Provide professional communication and support to customers, vendors, leadership, and operations teams.
- Coordinate with dispatch, service management, and field personnel to ensure customer expectations are met.
- Resolve customer concerns or escalate issues appropriately.
- Foster positive working relationships across departments and customer organizations.
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 3 years of outside sales experience within industrial, commercial, construction, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, maintenance, or related industries.
- Demonstrated experience calling on industrial facilities, manufacturing plants, refineries, chemical plants, municipalities, or large commercial accounts.
- Proven track record of generating new business and growing customer relationships.
- Strong communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CRM software.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
- Ability to pass customer-required background screenings and drug testing requirements.
Preferred
- Existing relationships within the Baton Rouge industrial and commercial markets.
- Experience selling plumbing, mechanical, industrial maintenance, construction, or facility services.
- Experience working with contractor qualification platforms and compliance programs.
- TWIC Card or ability to obtain one.
- Familiarity with industrial safety standards and contractor onboarding requirements.
Compliance Requirements
The selected candidate must be capable of obtaining and maintaining customer-required credentials and site access requirements, including:
- DISA qualification and approval.
- Drug and alcohol screening compliance.
- Background screening clearance.
- Customer-specific safety training and orientations.
- Contractor qualification program requirements.
- Site-specific access credentials as required by customers.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and climb stairs during customer visits.
- Ability to work in office, commercial, industrial, and active jobsite environments.
- Ability to travel throughout Baton Rouge and surrounding markets.
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) when visiting customer facilities.
